Awesome! We have one of these in LA right now (where they are so rare that people all over California have been driving down for it) and they're such cool birds

This raises serious concerns about Joe Biden's age

Yeah, I'm going to be getting my PHD next year (hopefully) and... well between research funding being gutted and the very possible manufactured recession, I'm fully expecting to get completely screwed.

It does, but that never works well lol. I typically have to use a swab every 2-3 months and any photo with a clear sky background (sadly oh so common here in CA) is an editing pain I feel like a little blinder type thing that you just push into place with your finger would do wonders

Kind of unrelated but I finally signed up for Nextdoor here because it's hilarious, and I can confidently say that if you posted this there (or Facebook) people would 100% absolutely not realize it was a joke

Huge downgrade in name. It's not like Talamanca hummingbird was more than a tiny portion of the original Magnificent range either, there was no need to change it to the crappy Rivoli's, we have enough hummingbirds named after random French nobles already

Cutting 20% of FEMA’s full-time staff means slower disaster response, fewer resources, and more lives at risk. In the face of rising climate emergencies, this move puts many communities in danger. www.audacy.com/knxnews/news...

NASA’s science programs are facing what experts are calling an “extinction-level event” under Trump’s proposed budget. From climate monitoring to planetary research, entire fields of discovery are on the chopping block. eos.org/research-and...

I could see the argument for charging EVs more given their weight, but if you're doing that then you also need to slap extra fees on giant trucks that are largely in this country used for driving from the suburbs to the office while pretending to be rural. But hybrids are inexplicable

The seagull rabbithole is a fun one! It's getting to the end of their season here, but winter flocks can be so much fun to pick through all the different species. I'm lucky this wasn't a 1st cycle/year bird - without a spread tail/wing shot you basically can't confidently ID Vegas at that age

Yearly! But kind of annoying - the most reliable spot these days is a specific yard in Niland lol, but they can pop up basically anywhere in the valley. Not nearly as many birders now going into the summer so not many reports yet!

I basically missed this news while out of town last week and learning about this pathetic stunt as someone who loves actual space exploration is legitimately painful. That Shatner clip is hard to watch. Great video as always

And they never sit still! I've seen them a few times but they always bolt right as you notice them on a flower
