Didn't know that we needed to "take back" our Arctic waters from Russia and China? Protect from maybe. Patrol and assert sovereignty over sure, but take back implies we've already lost them (which we haven't).

Good to know. Makes sense if you have the ability to get supporters to events they want to go to I guess.

I view 338 as the best polling agregrator that we have, and good on the national and provincial level. On a per riding basis it seems to be off in what percentage of support the candidates has. Though generally right on the end result. With FPTP that can spell doom for third place candidates.

Agree that it could easily just be that the conservative voters are really excited. Especially when polls showed them basically guaranteed a majority not long ago. As you said that also means a likely high conversion of support into votes. Hopefully high voter turnout all around.

These big crowds he keeps getting have me questioning if the polling numbers are off/missing people.

Keep in mind that ALL planned pedestrian and cycling infrastructure projects over the next 20 YEARS are going to cost under 1/4 of the expected cost of a single road widening project (Greenbank road, close to $400M)
If we're going to get out of our current issues, the city needs much more ambition

Wonder why the conservatives are so worried about disinformation being called out and explained to the public.

Like the concept and how comprehensive it is. In terms of making it easier to set up and get going, what about having a BRT vs rail? Currently no speed difference in Ottawa between the two, and would the capacity be an issue if there's consistent buses?

The recent NDP policies (Ontario and Federal) have been so disconnected from economic reality it's concerning. I support strong social programs, and that tends to align with the NDP, but I also want to have policies that have the desired result, not just a flashy headline.

It's nice reassuring getting a positive outside perspective. Especially considering what seems like the need to constantly push to make obvious improvements/not lose funding.

Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.
They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

That's definitely a valid concern. For existing transit stations the max of 1 per unit clarified elsewhere in the thread I'd suspect would be sufficient to still have the financials pencil out.

The maximum applying to "future locations" is going to be tough in the suburbs though. Especially stuff that's been pencilled in for years but still hasn't broken ground. Hard to convince someone to move into a place without a parking spot because they'll be next to rapid transit station in 15y.

The maximum only applies within 600m of mass transit stations. So very few properties will be affected.

Go to a tasting of jenever at Wynand Focknink in Amsterdam. They have a wide selection and flavours, entertaining bartenders/guide to the drinks and stories.

Simply amazing, and way outside what I was predicting (whoever won the liberal leadership would just be there to lose and then resign). I'm waiting to see if the trajectories stabilize or switch once an actual campaign starts, or a debate happens.

Definitely agree. We need lots more housing in Ottawa, but let's do it in a financially responsible way. Focus for new housing should be on improving the Zoning rules, not buildings tons of new infrastructure for a far off low density suburb.

Ottawa doesn't have to widen the roads. Leave the roads as is until they pick and implement a way for the drivers to pay.
DC's do currently pay into to many unrelated projects. But curious how you would propose paying for basic infrastructure (water&sewer) for greenfield projects otherwise?

Let's make zoning super simple in the upcoming changes, no sub-zone types etc.
And let's simplify all the rules around driveways and legal parking spots, etc.

If it TRULY was used ever to prevent gentrification, we would have laws preventing mansions, not apartments. We would have city fees that charged more for mansion-building, not less. We would have bylaws making social and supporting housing BY RIGHT.
That is not what they do. They do the opposite.

BRT on Baseline/Heron Rd. Ottawa's highest ridership bus goes down baseline already despite constantly stuck in traffic. Would only increase if it was BRT.
Carling BRT right after.
