Totoro no Mori. My piece for @spoke-art.com’s 2018 Ghibli-themed tribute show “Miyazaki in Los Angeles”. Watercolour.

The most murderous derp face.

This is horrible for the future of American science and innovation and economic wellbeing and all the things Pitt is not a small institution It has nearly 10K grad students It is where Salk discovered the polio vaccine

Make comics. Actually make them and FINISH them and MOVE ON and make another one and another. Start small. Make a one panel comic. Make a one page comic. Make a two or three page comic. Make a five page comic. Now you've really learned something! Keep going.

“…federal employment has declined in the past several decades. Civilian employees represent about 1.5% of the population and account for less than 7% of total government spending. 7 out of 10 civilian employees work in organizations that deal with national security.”

Another dataset I like is from the National Atmospheric Deposition Program, which has maps of the US that show we fixed the acid rain problem by implementing stricter emission controls on power plants. nadp.slh.wisc.edu/maps-data/nt...

Hello friends. I know times are dark but it is incredibly important not to lose hope. And, this week there are signs of hope and it paramount we recognize that hope, not let up and build. A thread on this if I may. You may appreciate this on a Friday. Come along with me. 🧵 (1/10)

a lot of people want to not be held responsible for slavery and indigenous genocide but want to hold onto the generational wealth and preferential structures resulting from them. I mean, I know it's obvious but I think it should probably get said out loud a lot more often

People always talking about how the government is bloated etc. they really run this motherfucker on a shoestring budget! The cuts that have happened are crippling!

So. It has officially happened. I have been officially let go from my position at CDC. I wasn’t a probationary employee. I had stellar performance reviews every year. I’ll be ok. But please understand that many worked HARD to get into these positions and were doing great public health work.

🚨BREAKING: Federal Court GRANTS sweeping nationwide injunction against Trump DEI executive orders finding that they violate First and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution. A huge victory for @democracyforward.org and its clients. A stinging loss for Trump. Visit www.democracydocket.com for details.

I thought “I am very poorly today & very stupid & hate everybody & everything” was the best and then I got to the bees.

Sometimes apropos of nothing I think about the brief internship I had where they had me voice record lines for their automated phone system.

its genuinely insane that they're firing CJCS for being black and CNO for being a woman. that is what's happening here

Happened faster than expected. Fascism tends to do that.

Apparently if you don’t purity test every journalist you follow for ever having expressed an unfortunate or unfounded bigotry-adjacent concern, you will be put on blocklists. Welp. It is what it is.

I’m waiting for the first performative defamation lawsuit by some Trumpist asshole who gave a Nazi salute, filed against someone who called it a Nazi salute. It will mirror the bullshit suits filed by the assholes who did the white power sign who whined that they had been defamed by naming it.

Sometimes it feels like we got here because moderate, conservative leaning people prefer to make compromises with hateful cynics than try to work with potentially over-ambitious idealists and their more moderately progressive compatriots.

I have such a crush on Donald Glover (not because of this video). He’s just so pretty and charming.

I keep waking up with this stuck in my head.

Senate adopts $340 billion budget blueprint for Trump's agenda after marathon 'vote-a-rama' 52-48 overnight vote with Rand Paul as the only GOP no. Republicans voted down a bunch of Dem amendments prohibiting high-end tax cuts and benefit cuts. www.nbcnews.com/politics/con...

My biggest mistake in thinking about the 2024 election was believing that people would, you know, remember what four years of President Trump was like. The country and its institutions did perhaps too good of a job of resisting him and it made everyone forget who he was.
