RIP Gene Hackman

Gonna do a double feature and rewatch Serial Mom (1994)

Rewatching Cry-Baby (1990)

Rewatching Totally F***ED Up (1993)

Just found out Gregg Araki did a successor story to the Teen Apocalypse Trilogy called Now Apocalypse back in 2019. Honestly can’t believe I didn’t already know about it.

A few films I recently watched, The Anderson Tapes (1971) A competent heist movie that get tonally lost several times. It’s ok 3/5 Fear City (1984) Watched this because of King Of New York and was underwhelmed It’s ok (3/5) Forbidden (1932) Messy pre-code melodrama Extremely my shit 4/5

Me when my migraine comes to visit.

If you're a white dude with some flexibility in your life, get a group of your like-minded bros together & go to these events to act as counterbalance to these "private security forces." Get in their way. Occupy space. Ask for their IDs. Outnumber them. Make their fascism difficult.

“I’m making my lunch!”

You kinda have to shut your brain off a bit, but it’s a fun time. 3.5/5

On my way to see the Monkey movie. My partner wants to see it for the Final Destination vibes and I want to see it for one of my favorite Canadians, Tatiana Maslany.

the fact that this is just a straightforward retelling of yesterday's events without hyperbole

Folks don’t talk enough about the Air Bud Cinematic Universe.

Mood

save us, fentanyl. fentanyl, save us

This was a Soviet era film that follows two Russian soldiers who get captured by the Nazis. It’s very very grim and it’s also incredible. 4.5/5

Now watching The Ascent (1977)

Equal parts serious gothic melodrama and goofy camp fest. This was a good time. 3.5/5

Now watching The Werewolf vs The Vampire Women (1971)

Just finished a rewatch of The Last Temptation Of Christ. I almost forgot how incredible that movie is.

Just got a pretty sweet late Birthday gift.

I know how you feel, black science man

A top tier Cape Fear style 80’s thriller that I can’t believe I’d never heard of before. Billy Zane is the standout as an absolute creep. Definitely check this one out. 4/5

Now watching Dead Calm (1989)

I rarely talk about short films here, but I just watched Pumpkin Movie (2017) dir by Sophy Romvari. It’s about two friends who are carving pumpkins together over Skype and sharing experiences they’ve had dealing with men. It’s around 10 minutes long and definitely worth checking out.

This was a pretty touching portrait of two poor sisters navigating relationships and their new place in the world post US Occupied Japan. Good stuff 3.5/5

Now watching Our Marriage (1962)

This is an anthology with 3 stories about New York from 3 different directors. Martin Scorsese - By far the best Francis Ford Coppola - Dogshit Woody Allen - Pretty good This makes the overall package a 3/5. I recommend checking out Martins. You can skip the other two.

Now watching New York Stories (1989)

Fantastic 60’s Gothic style family drama with witchy vibes throughout. Definitely make a point of seeing this. 4.5/5 This rating is for the directors cut

Now watching Eve’s Bayou (1997)

Nicely shot, some good performances, cool undead Templar zombie, but boy is it dull. This one’s getting my rating of barely passing. 3/5

Now watching Cross Of The Devil (1975)

beast mode

A Dostoevskyian trip of emptiness. A young man with a deep feeling of nothingness seeks out politics, activism, religion, marriage, psychology, music, crime, sexuality and education in an attempt to find a reason to live. After multiple failures, he rebels against life. Haunting, but great. 4/5

Now watching The Devil, Probably (1977)
