my new theory is that once you have a certain amount of money and wealth you start to go crazy and detach from reality. that number is different for everyone. for me it's $20

It’s no different than being a gambler that can’t stop, an alcoholic, or a drug addict. They’ll never have enough. Regardless of how many people they literally murder to get it. Greed and the lust for power are a mental sickness. And like rabies, once someone has it, there’s only one way to stop it.
It was crazy to witness this in my early 20s when I got my start working for super-successful movie producers. They were often confused by normal everyday stuff.
My theories is when you have a certain amount of money massed, you get replaced by a lizard person in a human skin and your only job is to bring annoyance and chaos amongs the other humans.
Greed is gonna kill us all. If you don’t have that I have enough barriers in your brain, you will hurt and injure others.
Almost kind of sad when you can’t just relax because you have what you need and it’s enough, but those people are too dangerous to us all to ignore.
Goes along with this? Catherine Austin Fitts said Trump does what bankers tell him to do. She talks about the US black budget, the missing $21 trillion, the breakaway civilization and what Musk's DOGE is really doing to try to finish implementing the control grid. https://youtu.be/KdBN5lBPHfI
Yes, Dostoevsky said it best “ the result for the rich is isolation and suicide “. The orange clown and the ketamine junkie are crazier than a pair of shit house rats .
I am at 3 million and I declared myself rich 20 years ago when I went into a book store and came out with every book I wanted without thinking about it.
full of fear amongst other things, today is always the day you die, now, when the moment comes, if they are conscious, I imagine they'll discover they were't special at all, but they squandered a great opportunity, Only thing you can take from this life is the good you did and the love you gave
I have designed a poster for the upcoming HANDS OFF! protests on Saturday, April 5th. If anyone wants a printable file of it, please message me : ) Find out more about the protests here: https://www.mobilize.us/handsoff/
I only need 1,100,000. or a lot of good peoples time.
in exploring a new way to hold onto a 200 year old political system. that was the greatest thing since sliced bread at the time of its birth!
I would even happily return any leftovers. :)
I made $44 the other day and I blew it on a an entire summer wardrobe at the local thrift store, (At $3 each piece) and sewing patterns on Ebay & Etsy. I get crazy with money.
A judge in Texas let a spoiled rich kid off with a light sentence after he killed several people with his reckless driving. The judge said the kid was a “victim” of “affluenza”, because his parents spoiled him so it wasn’t his fault. It seems wealth engenders a pathology of indifference.
Money makes people crazy. Period. We all start out not wanting anything. Then we're acculturated to see it as a means of obtaining comforts, like sweets or drugs, or other things. Then we can't get enough of any of it. The Stoics had the right idea. Money is killing us in this society.
This hit home for me about 25 years ago (gosh I’m getting old) when a couple wealthy business people were recruiting me and a colleague to help them design a software run business. At a dinner to woo us, they sometimes talked among themselves and it was clear they lived in a different world. 1/
I learned, during my 30 years of fundraising for nonprofits, that those who present themselves as rich were dumb as boards and really enjoyed being assholes.
The truly wealthy and I was blessed to work with some truly wealthy people were quiet, kind, helpful, and generous.
I've always theorized that after you reach a certain peak of money, you get a little bit of brain damage. That or they act like a hoarder for money. And it's so strange to keep seeing it happen over and over, honestly we should look into it.
Yep. And the rich seem to have the most scarcity. They're black holes that know nothing about satisfaction. They have no way to really connect to the world. They're just an image projected over a yawning abyss.
There’s a point, it seems, where it becomes more of a game of monopoly with them. Can a billionaire spend his/her entire portfolio in one or more lifetimes, without giving much of it away?
Eh, I have lot rent, car insurance to pay and cat food to buy. I’ll say $1500/month to keep me fed and off the street. It’s sad that these rich fucks are making us contemplate how little we could get by on each month🤬
$1100/month, plus?! Geezus😳 After insurance, out of your pocket? That’s crazy being that this is the world’s richest country, with an asterisk **who treats its own people like crap**
I don’t have any insurance because I work part-time and I’m only 63. No meds, just OTC stuff, plus nonTHC cannabis from the dispensary to help with pain and sleep😔
honestly, I always think of the ways I would give it away. How fun would it be to stuff a bunch of envelopes with cash and just start giving it to people. at the grocery store, at the park etc
I'm tenuously middle-class, but I remember how I used to have to organize when I'd pay bills to minimize the number of overdraft fees. $20 is crazy rich, sometimes.
It's worse than detachment from reality. A certain level of wealth means you no longer have to worry about the things that connect most of us to reality—paying bills, buying groceries, doing laundry—but extreme levels of wealth can lead you to think you can control reality. That's where we are now.
I used to work for rich dudes. They surround themselves with people who never tell them when they’re wrong. So they think they’re better than everyone else. And they lose any real friends they might have had. Ever notice how Trump never looks truly happy? Just fake happy?
Oh. $20 for me, too.
Wherever money goes, the greedy follow. And if you are surrounded by greedy people, it makes it easier to forget that greediness is ultimately detrimental to people.
So true. 90% of the time, the candidate who spends the most money wins. So Congress is mostly greedy people. We need to get dirty money out of government.
misleading subheading…whole article basically throws up its hands and says studies conflict on wealth being causal for assholery, and vice versa. Seems like a chicken and egg problem
Pretty sure there will be a correlation between the "I can splurge now!" number and unacknowledged privilege. I'm seeing that in myself now, with Social Security threatened. My "cushion" may soon disappear.
😂😂😂😂😂 I had the same exact thought about what i call 'Privileged Psychosis' 👀
Generic Human Pathogens at best self destructive. Stopped coming in here, don't want to waste my days thinking about human waste
i know what you mean! decades ago i had moved into a big city, and gotten a "real" job. i walked into a food court and thought "i've got twenties in my wallet. if i wanted to spend an entire $20 on taco bell i could literally kill myself"(from too much food....not...because it's taco bell 😀)
Buffet's company paid over 26 billion.
Roughly 5% of the total corporate taxes paid in. So many massive corporations are NOT paying their share. He said he's proud to pay it.
Buffet has been involved in extensive therapy. He had issues with his kids and grandkids and made an effort to resolve and heal relationships. This is probably why he's BETTER than the rest. But there has to be the desire in the first place. So kudos 👏 to him putting forth the effort. We all win.
Was he always like what? No one's saying anything about taxes. BUT of course, we should TAX the f*ck outa the rich. I'm not sure what you think is end of life. Is 65 end of life, or is it 75? Do you remember when his granddaughter did that interview about her being homeless? It was then.
Kudos to him! He also has donated most recently $3M to Glide Memorial: an incredibly inspiring church and organization serving the most vulnerable people in the tenderloin and continues to inspire people around the world
Oh ! Thanks for the clarification. I think we were thinking Autocorrect attacked you and changed the correct word to "tenderloin." and we were trying to figure out which word it was. 😁
You must be joking. Most of these billionaires pay practically nothing in taxes. 5 $billion is not the bare minimum. I’m quite sure Buffett could’ve got away with paying much less if he had wanted to.
Yeah they’ve done studies & the more money you have or if you grow up wealthy, it has negative effects on mental health. Humans aren’t made to have everything they want whenever they want.
I think power can definitely corrupt folks, but I also think power can simply bring out who people truly are.
Disagree even though we have several exceptional examples. Several billionaire come to mind that quietly promote safety, security, arts and science and more. Bezos ex, Bloomberg, are two noteworthy and quiet.
Your theory might be correct, but I also believe if you are spending as much time as he does on Twitter, you’ve officially divorced yourself from facts and reality.
When my net worth is $20(after 3.5 more years paying $1k/month in student loans on a public school teacher’s salary), I might detach from reality and buy one of those Dubai chocolate bars I read about in the paper. Wait I just realized they’re already $35 and nothing will be cheap ever again.
A few years ago I messed around with Cr$$ not going to type it out because of bots but made some money. You get a rush from that. I kind of suspect that’s a factor here too
To my shame in 1990 a Mom at my son's school told me she didn't have the $20 to donate for a teacher's gift. I remember thinking "who doesn't have $20?" Two months later my husband was laid off and we lost everything. It was the most painful but best lesson I ever got.
I'm beyond curious if any study has been done on the turning point for people. Like what dollar amount is hit that is around when you start to detach from earth altogether. These oligarchs takin over seriously are insane and need straight jackets. So at what point did they start this path.
My grandpa and grandma were very wealthy. Grandma was a dancer in the 1950s. they had everything.....until they didn't. Grandpa's firm was doing shady shit. He didn't know. Closed without warning. He died working in pest control and broke. Living paycheck to paycheck. Grandma on social security.
I've found, in my life, the things I've judged the hardest have become reality for me. I used to judge people for not breastfeeding, then I had problems doing it, addiction, then I became an addict etc etc. In every case it made me a more empathetic person. Now, I just don't judge what I don't know.
100% this. I get so mad when I catch myself thinking things about someone unkind because low and behold, the weirdest crap happens and I find myself finding out exactly why/how a person gets to where they are that I'm judging. It's terrifying true. I'm grateful to be kinder for it. Always be kind
Research has shown that the wealthier someone is, the more selfish they are likely to be because they have lost their connection to those less fortunate. That is not to say some uber wealthy are good, kind and generous people, but it is more likely they see things myopically as they gain wealth.
My definition of being wealthy has always been being able to go grocery shopping and not having to worry about the price of what I’m putting in my cart.
This is pretty much the only lifestyle change I made going from a waitress in college to a grad with a BS & MS in engineering disciplines. Didn't upgrade my home, car, clothing, possessions...just buying whatever brand cheese I want makes me feel like I've 'made it'. I am a simple person. 😆
Back when I was on Twitter, I remember reading a Tweet that said “Being a millennial is having buyer’s remorse over a $4.35 pack of Oreos” and I think about that often
Grocery shopping is like gambling, going to the store with a given amount, and leaving when it's spent, menu adjusting along the way. Now, it is way easier and faster shopping online.
My related theory is that the number at which you are so rich you go nuts is higher for women and minorities because the world is much more likely to keep telling them "no" while white men have their craziness encouraged and rewarded.
Zuck was always cruel. Facebook was built to make fun of and rate women. He and Trump are birds of a feather. It’s not the money. They would be cruel with no money. 😳

Just sheer possibilities.

Addiction to money is as bad, if not worse, than alcoholism. I helped a neighbor who suffered, so I don't say that lightly.
I wouldn't say it at all except one day, Mark Cuban said, when you make your first million all you think of is how to make the next.
That's addiction.

Making a good/service that treats everyone in the pipeline fairly is extremely hard to profit from these days.

Of course
I’ll always remember that lesson

*hands u $20 to see you go insane*
Government after government doing all they can to keep Jobseekers sane and attached to reality.
Oh. $20 for me, too.
folks without homes I was amazed at how generous they were, sharing what little they had.

The area where Glide is located is called The Tenderloin, but lmk if you find another word

I think you are right, though.
