I just want to read and garden and knit and not have to fight a fascist government.

They aren't lies, necessarily. Autistic people who won't work or pay taxes or play baseball or go to college or live independently DO exist. But you don't need to do any of those things to have a life of value.

I also have a degree and certification in students with disabilities. I'm well versed on learning disabilities and autism.

I'm also autistic. My grandson is non verbal and extremely high needs. The kinds of autistic people he's talking about DO exist. I'm not saying I agree with anything he wants to do about it, but social media discourse likes to ignore the very real struggles of high needs autism.

I'm talking about autism. Level 3, non verbal autism. There are autistic people out there that will not live alone. I'm not sure where you got learning disabilities from in what I said.

Yes, I think that's exactly where it's going. They aren't "productive" members of society. Some of the first people the n*zis went after were disabled children, they took them right from their school and institutionalized them.

Let's say he's right (bc he is) and some autistic people won't ever hold jobs, or toilet independently, or speak. It's not helpful to say not all autistics. What is helpful is to recognize the very real attack on profoundly disabled people that this is setting up.

My point is people are quick to dismiss his words because of personal success stories, and like usual, the very real struggles of profound autism are overlooked. Please note that I am not defending him, it's very N*ziesque, but the quickness in which I hear "not all autistics" is frustrating.

Comments today on this are always filled with people talking about how themselves or loved ones are autistic and successful and went to college and are married. Great. And some autistic people, like my grandson, are exactly what RFK said. And those autistics are valid too.

And what he is doing with his crusade to cure autism, is terrifying. Trump has already made remarks about Mexico sending their "unproductive members of society" here. When we start framing autism this way, it's creating a discourse that is setting the stage for some really scary n*zi level shit.

Look. I think it's worth acknowledging that there ARE autistic people who will not live independent lives. They are left out of the conversation so much of the time. My grandson will likely need lifelong care. BUT making them part of the conversation is NOT what RFK is doing here 1/2

Do you have suggestions or are you just going to needle at people for not doing enough

I live in a rural(red) area. Well water, no fluoride. I teach 1st. Almost every child has sliver caps. Moved there from a suburb with fluoride. Almost no caps in children.

They are going to use this as a way to get Trump's base to elect Vance, with the promise of Trump again. Then we will have Vance for 8 years, and Trump will be cast aside.
