Alister MacKenzie's 13 principles constitute a hugely influential framework for golf course design. On today's 101 episode of Designing Golf, @therealpjclark.bsky.social and I discuss whether we think the Good Doctor had good ideas. youtu.be/YPErccmbDBg?...

New Chocolate Drops in Club TFE: I talk about golf architecture supergroups, renovation work at a municipal A.W. Tillinghast design, Sergio García rocking Fireballs merch at a design contract signing, and more. thefriedegg.com/chocolate-dr...

Playing and discussing one of the coolest short par 4s in the Melbourne Sandbelt with Geoff Ogilvy: youtu.be/L5t219n-QYQ?...

I find it puzzling that LinksDAO is promoting the Donald Ross heritage of its new property, Hillcrest in Kansas City, while the course is in the process of being completely redesigned. That and more in this week's Club TFE Chocolate Drops. thefriedegg.com/chocolate-dr...

I've noticed recently that many supposedly "restored" golf courses look brand new. Here's my effort to explain what "golf course restoration" once meant, and what it means now: thefriedegg.com/golf-course-...

New Designing Golf episode today! Loved this conversation with @sproctorgolf.bsky.social about the 10 books that every golf course enthusiast should read. youtu.be/ybGEv9ggyic?...

Fans barely want ONE golf league. They do want it, I think, but *barely*. This is something that certain people with more money than sense need to remember.

Son is home sick today (bad) and watching Neil deGrasse Tyson get his ass kicked by a pair of actresses and a bunch of humanities-related questions on Celebrity Jeopardy (good).

Curious about golf course design but don't know how/where to start? Know a fair amount about the subject but still enjoy reviewing the fundamentals from time to time? Big @therealpjclark.bsky.social fan? We started a series for you. All of you. youtu.be/GGVkXgvGigw?...

Folks, Rory seems to have figured out how to hit greens from 120 yards (2/1/25)* *Putting a date on this so I can look back on it in early April and ruefully smile

Shane Lowry when he saw the weather forecast at Pebble this morning

It's easy to interview Geoff Ogilvy. You can say just about anything, and he'll respond with something insightful and original. A unique figure in the golf world. youtu.be/4wlfgQxzKR0?...

We launched a new show today! It's called Designing Golf, and I'm the host. The first three episodes are in the podcast feed, and the first episode—featuring @friedeggandy.bsky.social talking about what to expect from golf architecture in 2025—is on YouTube. youtu.be/yDMdHQ8NRIw?...

I wouldn't say I saw many under-the-radar courses in Melbourne—the bench of well-known, well-regarded courses is very deep there. But I get the sense people don't talk about Woodlands very much. Such a cool course, and a little different than other Sandbelters.

Assuming you're doing both courses at Royal Melbourne and Peninsula Kingswood, I would definitely add Victoria to that list. I think Victoria has a strong argument as the fourth best course in the Sandbelt. Commonwealth would probably be my final choice.

I'm back from break, knocking off the rust, and answering a bunch of questions from Club TFE members about my trip to the Australian Sandbelt. Also, if any #GolfSky / #GolfBS denizens have questions about golf in Melbourne, I'll answer them here. thefriedegg.com/australian-s...

This made me chuckle. Not sure why, but it did.

My wife and I cherish our annual tradition of watching Home Alone with our kids. We feel it's important to remind them not to trust us.

Bernie Langer is just an all-time pest. Winning Champions Tour events into his late 60s, hoarding Father-Son titles with his stone-faced offspring, thwarting Tiger and Charlie three days before Christmas, anchoring his heart out all the way. Gotta respect it at this point.

I don't care if they're the unpopular choice in this showdown against Bernhard and Jason Langer. I'm rooting for Tiger and Charlie Woods. What can I say, I'm a contrarian.

A dream trip coming up

Gotta play better, I guess, lol
