Byline Times is facing major DDOS (malicious traffic-flooding) issues on our site apparently after this article went live... bylinetimes.com/2025/02/21/d...

For every $1 the IRS spends auditing the top 1%, it can collect $13. For every $1 the IRS spends auditing the top 0.1%, it can collect $26. Laying off 7,000 IRS employees (during tax season) isn't about efficiency. It's about making it easier for the rich to evade taxes.

Tyranny requires your fear, your silence, and your compliance. Democracy requires your courage.

Ex-Reform UK employees issue claims for alleged unpaid wages. Employees claim they were summarily dismissed after the UK general election without payment for several months of work. Reform MPs voted against Labour's modest Bill on workers' rights. Be careful what you wish for. archive.ph/4O17Y

Privatisation of the NHS US private equity and UK pension fund USS make bid for NHS landlord Assura. Assura was set up in 2003, owns more than 600 healthcare buildings worth £3bn. NHS burdened with rent. This is in addition to PFI payments. Less spent on front line services. archive.ph/QRaGZ

Losses to the Greens on the left and Reform on the right for Labour in local by elections. They’re small turnout affairs but do highlight how the broad but shallow Coalition Labour built was hyper efficient but can quickly be eaten into at both ends. From @electionmaps.uk

You think it can’t get any worse. But it will. Every day. Until enough GOP members decide to pushback (no sign so far); Supreme Court backs the constitution (not hopeful); markets crash; or American voters rise up.

Expansion with a side of...expansion 🙄 These ‘economic benefits’ won’t reach anyone except Heathrow’s bosses. If Labour Ministers approve these plans, they’ll officially be making worse climate decisions than the last lot. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

Bad title. Great article. The article itself explains how basic income pilots don't show decreases in work and often even show increases. Unconditional basic income is money to do anything. Welfare has the condition that you keep your income low enough to keep getting it. That's a key difference.

More than 26,000 babies and toddlers were admitted to hospital last year with lung conditions linked to exposure to damp and mould in rented homes, BBC Panorama analysis of NHS England data finds. “Billionaires own my mouldy home” — The private renters struggling to be heard.

Someone to listen carefully to: @johnwdean.bsky.social was a White House lawyer under Nixon, no less.
