I saw them 9 times, memorable moment would be at Reading Festival 1978, sat on the edge of the stage by Bruce Foxton’s mic stand at the end of the gig.

The Jam were a brilliant band. To this day, The Clash and them alternate almost weekly as my favourite bands of all time. Both with short 5-7 year legacies, evolving on every album in songwriting, talent and musical diversity. In ways, very much like the Beatles timeline, right down to the breakups.

Thanks for the kind words Mick. gc

I remember going to see FtJ when both Rick and Bruce were playing. Standing right by the PA - the sheer power of The Jam rhythm section was something else.

News of the World 🎶🔥 A Man of Such Great Promise Saw The Jam 7 times, once John Weller let us in the side door at Cambridge when we didn't have tickets. Incredible live, shaped my mid and late teens, there was The Jam and then there was the rest ... RIP Rick 🙏

Hey Gary. Where do you begin with The Jam? We live in a world where YouTube so-called influencers have body guards to protect them from us plebs. But The Jam would have a drink with you in the bar before a gig. They'd let you in for a soundcheck....

Happy sunny Saturday! Heart of Oak - Richard Hawley A day in the life of...(parts 1 & 2) - Weekend Can't Take My Eyes Off of You - Lauryn Hill cover Was a bit too young to see The Jam first time out, but did see Rick play with From The Jam at Bingley festival 2007 - great energy and so many tunes!

...They'd even let you sit-in at the studio while they recorded. Who does that? They did. They instinctively got it. So many positive memories in what were - let's be honest - not the best of days.....

...Rick's live drumming on Tube Station always set a gig alight. You'd be hot sweaty and knackered, but - often at the finish - you'd find another burst of energy to get your arms up and clap along with his drum solo and roar your approval at the end.

Town Called Malice was one of the first singles ever I bought in the early 80s, and have loved it ever since... fantastic drum beat and a prelude to me discovering northern soul

OF you say GC .... Land OF Shame - Spear OF Destiny Temple OF Love - Sisters OF Mercy Story OF A Young Heart - A Flock OF Seagulls Rick Butler too many, I suppose he was the quiet one, reliable and always held the songs together perfectly.

Afternoon, GC. We're going with a song that covers both love and heartbreak - especially after hearing the story behind it in the Luther documentary. It's the man himself with "Any Love" All the best, A & G.

Afternoon! Saint Etienne - 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart' for the double whammy For love and heartbreak as themes rather than titles you can't beat Richard Hawley (Heart of Oak, Coles Corner, Seek It...) and Nick Cave (Into My Arms, or in fact anything from The Boatman's Call)
