Spent decades building expertise in areas I don't pay attention to anymore. Now read a lot about plants. Wikipedia says I'm best known for a wrestling history book. Southwestern Ontario.

Should have been "another 20 with 47% or more".

By my count (no spreadsheet yet, so this is a manual count), the PCPO won 40 seats with over 50% of the vote and another 20 with 48% or more. Even the most optimistic anti-vote splitting campaign would only have reduced the majority, not prevented it.

More municipalities look for alternatives to X after Cambridge drops the social media platform

Voted. Was pretty sparse at the early voting station. My wife and I doubled the number of voters there and one of the other two was at the wrong place.

Good for Cambridge!

I'm still amazed that Justin Trudeau and the entire Government of Canada is still there and not here.

11 years ago, OTHER people go to Cincinnati ... and I'M the one still eating Skyline chili. Thanks @amandastratton.bsky.social and @joelcadams.bsky.social

When you send everyone $200 to try to buy their vote, you got to make some cuts somewhere. #Ontario

I don't think I've ever seen an organization announce a new CEO without a single sentence about what they did before this appointment. ... which MaRS did today. They found room to talk about the two new board members, but chose not to for the new CEO.

Headline writer at the Record had fun with this one. (About doing doughnuts in cars.)

I didn't want to read the details in the Neil Gaiman story from yesterday, but they must have been pretty gruesome since both ChatGPT and NotebookLM refused to answer questions about the article.

An important reminder of the vital role that local journalism plays in communities

Cunk on Life was okay, but a big step down from Cunk on Earth.

I'd say they lived up to the hype. Could only eat two ... I said before starting a third. Don't have them around here.

There's nothing notably toxic about poinsettias -- to humans or pets. Have to say "notably" since everything is toxic at high enough doses. People have died from drinking too much water. No one has been killed by ingesting poinsettias.

Enjoying NotebookLM as a way to "read" books I've had for years and, realistically, was never going to get to. Can put them into NotebookLM, get an overview, and then ask questions that will be answered from the content of the book. Also listen to the AI "podcast" about the book.

My life these days: spending a week reading about whether it's okay to water houseplants with ice cubes. (And, after all that, the answer is we don't really know. Maybe.)

I wanted to like Mastodon but its idea of decentalization seemed like a clumsy kludge. I wanted to like Threads, but still no lists. Bluesky has lists and even a Tweetdeck dupe. Maybe more people will show up now. Fortunately, I don't have anything to say so it doesn't really matter.

Thank goodness Russell T Davies is back

Future case study: is it better for a new social media site to die a sad death with everyone on a waitlist for an account or with everyone having an account they abandon in a couple of weeks?
