Flu season is going to be fun next year with no vaccine. edition.cnn.com/2025/02/26/h...

Welcome to the Bluesky account for Stand Up for Science 2025! Keep an eye on this space for updates, event information, and ways to get involved. We can't wait to see everyone #standupforscience2025 on March 7th, both in DC and locations nationwide! #scienceforall #sciencenotsilence

I like Mark Cuban. Seriously, of all the billionaires, I plan on eating him last. But quality education teaches us how to ask good questions. Bright students pride themselves on answering questions no one else can answer. Scholars pride themselves on asking questions no one else has asked.

I maxed out my credit card, emptied my savings account, and took out a loan to move from Alabama to Bethesda, MD. I don’t even qualify for unemployment since I’ve only worked at NIH for a month. I will be financially and medically devastated. Seeking suggestions for anywhere that’s hiring!!

WTF?

Core Values so strong they delete them the second it’s looks like they’ll have to stand by them.

The @acs.org has deleted its website on diversity, equity, inclusion and respect. www.acs.org/about/divers...

What an exciting way to kick off the year. Before the end of the month, a new paper led by Swaroop Chakraborty & @iseultlynch.bsky.social and together with, Iuliia Mikulska, @cpfrang.bsky.social and Superb K. Misra! Published in @natrevmater.bsky.social rdcu.be/d7Xl5 @cebcambridge.bsky.social

R01 on studying humanized wokeases, the enzyme responsible for suppression of wokeness, submitted. Budget: 3,000,000 dogecoins. To give it a little help I budgeted half of that into buying several Tesla Powerwalls to power my new unvaccinated whale oil refinery. #DieWokeWhales #GreenBiodiesel

All NSF panels have been cancelled until further notice.

Tuberculosis is not a solved problem. The only vaccine against it…isn't very effective.

To say that I have been waiting for this to come out with the same intensity people have for the next Taylor Swift album would be no understatement. Huge congrats, Darren. Brilliant idea, brilliantly executed.

Genetically Engineered Peptides for the Biomimetic Mineralisation of Metal-Organic Frameworks Authors: Smaragda Lymperopoulou, Samuel Hoff, Anna Sola-Rabada, Monika Michaelis, Igor Efimov, Zayd Westcott, India Willimott, Mauro Chiacchia, Hendrik Heinz, ... DOI: 10.26434/chemrxiv-2025-lmtvh

Ah, the common clay of the “new West”

I’m no microbiologist but I’m pretty sure this is how phages look around this time of year 🎄

Orikeda Trashi's latest research is out in Acta Biomaterialia! This study introduces a dendrimer-based system that slips past the outer layer of skin and gets into the deep dermal layer delivering two different therapeutics that promote collagen formation ! www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

We have really outdone ourselves with the graphic and written abstract of our latest paper in @angewandtechemie.bsky.social Collaborative w/ @ronsmaldone.bsky.social we show that a large-pore MOF made from an immunogenic monomer enhances the immune response against whatever protein you put in it!

A second paper on tuberculosis vaccines! Here, we present two new transmembrane protein antigens in a proteoliposome. Proteoliposomes are too delicate for a TB vaccine, so, of course, we cover them in MOFs. Shena (probably not on Bsky) showcases her work on that other site:

We made a manganese-zinc mixed metal MOF that works as a decent antigen in Tuberculosis. The manganese helps an immune response similar to that of viral infection. Check out Thomas' work! He's on Twitter, but I can show za screenshot of his tweet. The paper is here: doi.org/10.1002/adhm...

We designed MS2 and PP7 binding coat proteins that are degraded in cells except when bound by their hairpin RNAs. You can check out our pre-print here: tinyurl.com/27p7hyt9, and listen to a Google AI-generated podcast on it here: notebooklm.google.com/notebook/d71...

A few weeks ago I started to build an electroformation chamber to make giant unilamellar vesicles. I found it was much easier to clean the electrodes with alternating DC voltage… here’s my little guy splitting water getting ready to make its first GUVs!

Just a little weekend science project

Couldn’t let this go without showing the final product. The bark was *chefs kiss*

ThermoWorks makes Bellows, which is a small fan that connects to the air intake at the bottom of my barrel smoker. It interfaces with their line of Signals BBQ Thermometer, which has been amazing. So far a very steady temp for the last hour.

I am not sure DARPA had this in mind when they invented the internet, but you can watch the thermals history (barrel and meat temp) of my pork butt cook today! You can even follow what the bellows are up to. cloud.thermoworks.com/shared/4yzZ6...

The reply all button should be a privilege not a right.

I found an old British Airlines first class toiletry bag. They really do it up. The weird grass tie for the socks is adorable. I have no idea if Elemis is fancy or not but it smells nice.

the whole purpose of the post-menopausal woman is to prevent the rise of generative AI

Can we talk about how logging into era commons to see your score is a form of psychological torture, especially when the site is slow af.

This is so frustratingly inconsistent. Why am I even learning this language? Most Germans I meet speak better English than I do

The #ChemSciPicks this week is from Jeremiah Gassensmith et al. They show biomimetic mineralisation of the inert model antigen ovalbumin in (ZIF-8) to improve immune response. Read the work here, in full and for free: pubs.rsc.org/doi/D3SC06734C 🧪#ChemSky #ChemSci #DiamondOpenAccess #OpenAccess
