Alongside familiar clumps of Snowdrops, thousands of yellow Hazel catkins are ripening in the winter sunshine. The female flowers are tiny, but every Hazel produces both male catkins & female flowers (but cannot pollinate itself). Female Hazel flower - photo by Barry Yates https://buff.ly/3X6vEPV

Yesterday on X, the Green Party’s post in solidarity with Ukraine after 3 years of resistance to Putin drew criticism from some supposedly on the left as well as (predictably) from the far right. Common themes in this were that Ukraine is fighting a “proxy war” for the US & NATO...🧵

⚡️Russian missile attack in Kryvyi Rih kills 1, injures 5. Three of the injured victims have been hospitalized, with one woman reportedly in critical condition. She is being treated in the hospital's intensive care unit.

Ukrainians & Londoners marching in a powerful show of solidarity with Ukraine, now entering its 4th year of resistance to invasion by war criminals. No to Putin. No to Trump. No to all fascists & imperialists, whether in Washington or Moscow. (video by @lynnrusk on X) @ukrainesol.bsky.social

Labour let the last Tory Govt pass repressive anti protest laws. Some of us Peers tried to stop the worst measures with a Fatal Motion I tabled, but Labour refused to support it. Now in power, they are happy to use these laws against us.

Well done EHRC.

I've walked under these beautiful trees in #Falmouth almost every day for nearly 25 years. Have we learned nothing from the wanton felling of street trees in Sheffield & Plymouth? Do consider signing the petition if you're local. chng.it/DjhXqwLbwP

Head in hands.

Exploited migrant farm workers in UK paid for picks, not hours. Workers not paid for in-work travel, time spent moving between workstations, team meetings, receiving instructions on equipment use. Employers violating employment rights. Need effective enforcement, not deregulation.

It's staggering how fast democracy in the USA has imploded. My only hope is that it will act as a warning to all the rest of us and we'll be alert to the damage done by the political con artists in society. It really is time to join @greenparty.org.uk and combat the lies.

These are the indicative estimates of Russia’s combat losses as of Feb. 23, according to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Trump administration today fired at least 2,300 federal workers at the Department of the Interior, including 1,000 National Park Service employees, 800 Bureau of Land Management employees and 400 U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service employees — or 4% of the agency’s entire workforce. biodiv.us/40RNlUk

Our take on the nomination of Brian Nesvik for director of the USFWS: “Trump is declaring war on wolves, grizzly bears and imperiled wildlife across America by picking Brian Nesvik to run the Fish and Wildlife Service,” said Stephanie Kurose, the Center's deputy director of government affairs.

Our take on Kathleen Sgamma's nomination for Director of Bureau of Land Management: “Kathleen Sgamma would be an unmitigated disaster for our public lands as head of Trump’s Bureau of Land Management,” said @publiccarbon.bsky.social, Southwest director at the Center for Biological Diveristy.

Today will be sunny, the temp rising to 12°, so breakfast soon, then to allotment to trim the rest of the raspberry bushes and tidy as much as possible after winter winds have blown things around. Partner has suggested he makes (our) leeks in cheese sauce. Then listening to footie. Happy days 2/2

💚🇺🇦 The Green Party stands in solidarity with Ukraine.

⚡️ Russian attacks on Kostiantynivka, Donetsk Oblast, kill at least 2. The number of casualties may rise as people could still be trapped under the rubble, Donetsk Governor Vadym Filashkin reported.

💚🇺🇦 Now is the time to stand with Ukraine and against the authoritarianism represented by the likes of Trump, Farage and Putin.

Word discovery of the day is ‘yoke-devil’ (17th century): an accomplice in a villainous or immoral undertaking.

Had the pleasure of attending the relaunch of @humaneworldorg.bsky.social (formally known as Humane Society International) at an event in Parliament . Let’s keep reminding Labour of its promise to give animal welfare ‘the biggest boost in a generation’ and help turn those words into bold actions !

⚡️Trump admits Russia attacked Ukraine. "Russia attacked, but they shouldn't have let him attack," U.S. President Donald Trump said on Feb. 21, after previously blaming Ukraine for starting the war.

Trump's comments become more delusional and dangerous by the day. It's more vital than ever that the UK government speaks truth to power, stands up for British values and interests, and challenges Trump's tsunami of disinformation.

⚡️Sanctions remain vital for maintaining international pressure on Russia, Deputy PM says. Most of the frozen Russian assets are within EU jurisdictions, and there are currently no plans to unblock them, Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Olha Stefanishyna said to RBC-Ukraine on Feb. 19.

⚡️ European leaders back Zelensky after Trump's accusations. "Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia's merciless war of aggression for almost three years... And it is simply wrong and dangerous to deny President Zelensky's democratic legitimacy," German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on X.

⚡️ Zelensky's trust rating increases to 57%, survey shows, contradicting Trump's claims. The poll, carried out between Feb. 4 and 9, was published shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump alleged that Zelensky holds a "4% approval rating" without providing a source to back his claim.

⚡️ Russian disinformation behind Trump's claim of 4% approval rating, Zelensky says. "We saw this disinformation. We understand it comes from Russia... we have evidence that those figures have been discussed between the U.S. and Russia," Zelensky said.

So, why isn’t the govt following this route? Why is it maintaining a position that requires customers to pay for the WC failure?

Russia ended years of political isolation as a delegation of Kremlin officials met with their U.S. counterparts in Saudi Arabia to discuss how to end the war. The talks ended with little in the way of concrete agreements, but the very fact it happened — without Ukraine — is a huge win for Moscow.

⚡️ Hungary again blocks EU sanctions against Moscow Patriarch Kirill. The news came after EU ambassadors agreed on the 16th package of sanctions imposed against Russia.
