another reason why parable of the sower terrifies me is because events and discourse happening within the last week are mirrored in the book.
this excerpt is from wednesday march 5, 2025. octavia butler wrote this book in 1993.
today is march 9, 2025.

If you think (sweeping wave of hand) is bad now, wait until we have a generation of adults who literally, very literally, do not understand the difference between Real and Fake. They won't even understand what you're asking if you put the question to them.
It's gonna be great.

Given all the bs dancers have to deal with from drunk dudes, y’all could at least be compensating us for your fuckery. If you want to just chat up a girl at a bar for free, go to a normal fucking bar. When you’re at a strip club, you are paying entertainers for their time/attention.

And if the club has fake money, it’s very likely they’re shaving some off of that for themselves. I worked at a club where dancers only got $17 from every $20 fake bill exchanged. So BRING REAL MONEY or accept that you will need to pay high ATM fees once you’re there.

And yes, house fees are gross and exploitative and that’s why there have been more clubs trying to unionize. Dancers don’t get wages. They get what YOU pay them and THEN they also have to pay the club, the house mom(s), DJs, and/or bouncers. And most of them ALSO have to pay fees to the club!!
