I don't know if it will actually happen but I think the thing we actually *need* from the next generation of PLs is first-class language interop, because I think we're starting to bump up against the limits of what you can do with ergonomics in general purpose programming languages

In short, the right people are working on this, they're not out to build a Twitter clone, they're out to reshape the web, and help us return to the original promise of an open platform, a sense of ownership, and the ability to share with each other on our own terms.
