No it’s not an incredible new archive that will absolutely blow your hat off, news of that’s coming in a few more weeks. BUT: thrills here! www.york.ac.uk/borthwick/ne...

No it’s not a trip down the salt mine, I did that a couple of weeks ago

The answer is D

Many of you will know that when I say things like ‘I am about to pull off the greatest work-based escapade of my life’, then I am not joking. Folks. This week, with a fair wind and following seas, I will absolutely pull off the greatest work-based escapade of my life.

Or - and hear me out here - you could say 'it's just a meeting, don't worry, go and spend time with your kids. We'll only be sat around a board table for two hours discussing best practice'

Had a LOVELY old time recording an @artatyork.bsky.social podcast episode with the fabulous @helenacoxcurator.bsky.social and the almost as fabulous @gbrannanarchive.bsky.social today. We really got into art and authenticity and AI slop and social media and me not being able to draw 😀

What a boost to see such positive feedback for our art collection podcast - hurray!!!❤️ Already working on next episodes and a stellar line-up of guests 🤩 Fabulous working with the ever wonderful @gbrannanarchive.bsky.social 🥰 #UoYArt

I cannot recommend this podcast enough - come for the wonderful chat about our gorgeous brutalist campus, and stay for the BONUS Don Brothwell anecdotes. @gbrannanarchive.bsky.social @artatyork.bsky.social thanks for this lovely series, when's the next one out? :)

For the morning crowd! Enrich your commute with a stimulating discussion on the merits of brutalist, the demerits of Brut aftershave, and what’s a university photographer actually do then?! open.spotify.com/episode/1qD0...

Very moving article from our own Dr Laurence Marks on the Moorgate crash www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

It’s been such a delight to record this latest episode of our Art Collection podcast with the ever brilliant @gbrannanarchive.bsky.social and my wonderful colleague, photographer and curatorial assistant Paul Shields - tune in & make sure you make it to the very end ;-) Loved recording it!❤️ #UoYArt

Yes! We are BACK BACK BACK with all new content. Come one, come all, for a glorious celebration of Brutalist architecture, photography, and MUCH MORE. open.spotify.com/episode/1qD0...

A night at the theatre to celebrate the career of the Marvellous Mike Cordner: “Speak that I may see thee": Performing Shakespeare's Rival Playwrights Today. Hah! And you thought I was just here for the 50s innuendos!

Just wanted to post a few images of this cos it blew my tiny mind So, here we have the target maps for both #Manchester and #York. Red are strategic targets; purple other industrial targets. It’s no wonder Old Trafford got bombed when you look at it this way.

Ooh! Ooh! I did done this one! borthcat.york.ac.uk/index.php/md... It’s only the invasion plans from the 1940s!

WE’VE BEEN BUSY

“Screaming. A million mouths screaming but also laughing the sky will bleed and there shall be a great flensing a burning away of the flesh it is coming there is no way to stop what is coming.”

I am really pleased to see this become a reality and take flight. When we started the journey with this, it felt a bit basic, but as one of our co-authors has said, in the current context, committing to EDI can now be seen as a radical act. www.rluk.ac.uk/on-equity-di...

The Hall in need of a glow up in the 1960s. Looking a little rough around the edges, the Hall was photographed from the demolition site of an adjacent building. This view has now been lost.

On 10 May 1945, Richard Crossman travelled through the gates of Dachau concentration camp, 10 days after liberation His diary includes a description - inevitably, it's not an easy read, but it is a human response to walking into the unimaginable #HolocaustMemorialDay #HMD2025

It's a day to stay indoors... ...and what an indoors we have!

Such a wonderful storyteller!

We've checked the rules and there's nothing against a doorway for #adoorablethursday. Here is the original medieval entranceway to the Undercroft - the space which was once an almshouse. All that is left of the door are the brackets.

This is both an incredibly niche thing but I think it should be more of a thing. Caffè Nero subscribes to the British Newspaper Archive so it’s all free on their wifi. There. I said it.

Did you know a number of our archives are digitised for free online? You can search our chapbooks collection; psychiatric hospital case books; the Harewood West Indian archive; ecclesiastical Visitation Court Books; and a spiritualist photo album via JSTOR. www.jstor.org/site/univers...

You might have to be handy with a needle and thread in medieval England for more than just your clothing. These three pieces of 14th century parchment were neatly stitched together to form a long roll and we're fortunate that the stitches have survived in such good condition to the present day!

GOOD LORD

Thanks to the 1,600 people and organisations who responded to the UK Ministry of Justice’s proposals on the retention of wills. Good news: The UK Government has determined not to proceed with any reforms that involve the destruction of original wills Read in full here: www.gov.uk/government/c...
