EFF has joined an ideologically diverse group of legal advocacy organizations in asking a federal judge to strike down the president’s executive order targeting Perkins Coie for past work on voting rights lawsuits and its representation of the president’s prior political opponents.

Honored to be one of 91 members of the Georgetown Law faculty to sign this letter to (and for) our students:

115 state legislators from 28 states urge Commerce Secretary Lutnick to make any changes to the Broadband Equity Access & Deployment program optional, not mandatory. Mandates will cause untold delays. www.benton.org/blog/states-...

PREACH!

After nearly 20 hours, Sen. #CoryBooker is still going strong. A Herculean feat of physical, mental, vocal & moral stamina. I plucked this two-minute passage from his 20th hour. (Yes, he said this after nearly 20 hours on his feet) I was so taken by it, I had to transcribe & share.

Incredible all the new “experts” on broadband and broadband policy showing up these days. Where were they when the Affordable Connectivity Program was running out of money?

We need more @booker.senate.gov's in the Democratic Party. And we need them right now. newjerseyglobe.com/congress/boo...

Here's a level-headed look at the consequences of giving half or more of the $42.5 billion Congress authorized for broadband to satellite. @natpurser.bsky.social lays out the stakes for ensuring universal robust connectivity if the Administration changes course. publicknowledge.org/slowing-bead...

And bravo to @wilmerhale.bsky.social for stepping up and bringing a lawsuit against Trump's Executive Order! abcnews.go.com/Politics/law...

Kudos to Jenner & Block for standing firm against the Administration's threats. We need more law firms and lawyers like Jenner. What say you, @wilmerhale.bsky.social? www.jennerfirm.com

I had an amazing time! Thanks to @christopherali.bsky.social @saschameinrath.bsky.social and the faculty and staff of @bellisariograded.bsky.social for showing me a great time. What an amazing group of scholars and advocates you are building in Happy Valley!

Really great getting to hear @gbsohn.bsky.social chat about the Future of Telecommunications with @christopherali.bsky.social and @saschameinrath.bsky.social at Penn State yesterday @bellisariograded.bsky.social

I only heard half of the oral argument from the Trump Administration and ISPs supporting the constitutionality of the FCC's Universal Service Fund, but the lawyers were great & I'm hopeful. Seems I have reason to be: broadbandbreakfast.com/supreme-cour...

I'm spending my morning listening to oral argument at the US Supreme Court on the constitutionality of the Universal Service Fund, which seeks to ensure affordable broadband to low income, rural, health care facilities, K-12 schools and libraries. Join me here: www.supremecourt.gov/oral_argumen...

Looking forward to being unplugged with my friends @saschameinrath.bsky.social & @christopherali.bsky.social tonight at @pennstateuniv.bsky.social!

I'm sure we'll hear boatloads of excuses why the UK is kicking our butt in fiber broadband penetration, but suffice it to say that if the Commerce Deparment restructures the BEAD program to favor satellite, we'll never catch up. broadbandbreakfast.com/uk-on-track-...

This is more important than you realize. Bluesky doesn’t downgrade links. Which means news sites will get more traffic from here than other sites. Which gives them economic reasons to post here first.

EFF is surprised and disappointed by the Trump Administration’s abrupt decision to terminate two FTC commissioners.

We need fighters, not people who cling to "hope."

I can think of no finer public servants than FTC Commissioners @bedoyaftc.bsky.social & Rebecca Kelly Slaughter. Their firing by Trump is a travesty, and yes, illegal. www.axios.com/2025/03/18/t...

The fact that the corporate legacy media is even having this event shows how little they understand the moment we are in and how little they intend to fight back. Support fearlessly independent media.

The departing head of the $42.5B program that is intended to bring robust broadband to all Americans warned in an email that the Commerce Department will likely make changes that result in slow broadband for most, benefitting Musk. I talked to @cnet.com about it. www.cnet.com/home/interne...

Media is straight up refusing to cover any of the protests, and actively misreporting the basics of the law-breaking across the administration. Normal people who just casually pass by a few minutes of CNN in a week haven't heard *anything* about the worst attack on government since the Civil War.

outgoing officials warn that Trump Corp is repurposing a $42.5 billion broadband grant program to shift money away from local rural ISPs to Elon Musk's congested, expensive, ozone-layer depleting satellite broadband service you know, because he hates subsidies so much

What do Democrats stand for? Asking for a country. punchbowl.news/article/wash...

I spent most of the last year spelling out in detail how this was going to happen they're going to redirect taxpayer money from a lot of locally-owned fiber ISPs (focused on service and affordability), and throw it at musk's expensive, ozone layer depleting, congested plagued satellite service

I’m 63 and I’m all about this. Time for new Democratic leadership in both Houses. We need people with fight and savvy in the way people communicate today. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/14/u...

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable. Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes. Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

Now would be a good time for all the D Senators who posted nice videos saying they were NO on cloture and NO on the CR 10 hours ago to repost them. #Courage #Leadership

Don't I know it.

“If you’re downloading stuff to your house in a rural area, and your speed drops because the system is oversubscribed, that’s annoying.” @haroldfeld.bsky.social joins @voxdotcom.bsky.social on what Elon's government takeover could mean for your ability to get and stay online.
