UPDATE: SB 56, the bill to roll back various parts of Issue 2, is delayed while its sponsor provides emergency services in Kentucky following flooding there. So, no committee vote or Senate vote this week. And now also more time to make your voice heard - action.aclu.org/send-message...

Today, I will testify on SB 56, the cannabis bill on a fast track to roll back numerous & significant parts of Issue 2. Legislators' opinions on this issue appear to range from outright hostility to apathy. Either way, they do not like you pesky voters. More specifically: 1/8

For 10+ years now, the #1 reason a person goes to an Ohio prison is for drug possession. Want to make Ohio’s prisons safer? First step = end the the failed War on Drugs & stop spreading prison staffing & funding so thin. www.10tv.com/mobile/artic...

Because of Ohio voters, one of the dumbest laws ever passed by the Capital Square Theocracy has been struck down by a state judge. www.cincinnati.com/story/news/p...

Heads up! There is a hearing Tuesday (2/18) for SB 56, the bill to screw with Issue 2/cannabis legalization. The plan = scrapping the social equity & jobs program, limiting home grow & other changes vs the will of voters. It also appears the full Senate will pass it Wednesday.

Yesterday, a Senate Committee was told how banning all campus DEI efforts would impact military veterans, those with disabilities, crime victims, rural students, first generation college students, and many more. The GOP members passed it anyway & today the Senate will, too. They simply do not care.

Today, I will be testifying vs. SB 1, the confusingly written, horribly flawed higher education bill the GOP Senate is ramming through to perpetuate the culture wars. While there is plenty to rant against, I will focus on the DEI & academic freedom portions of SB 1.

At the same point in time crusty old white guys are bitching & moaning about DEI because they think it means black people getting hired for jobs they are not qualified for, Gov. DeWine just appointed a football coach as Lieutenant Governor. #OnlyTheBest www.dispatch.com/story/news/p...

DEI caused me to stub my toe on the coffee table; DEI made my cat barf on the carpet; DEI caused the Cavs to lose the other night; DEI is responsible for it being so cold in January; DEI burnt my dinner; Do I have this all correct? I'm just trying to adjust to 2025.

Yesterday, the Statehouse GOP introduced HB 26, their latest anti-immigrant bill. This bill forces state & local law enforcement to partner with the federal government for the enforcement of immigration laws. Why is this a bad idea? Follow along: 1/15

The Statehouse theocrats are back in action, forcing their religious beliefs on Ohio's school children. SB 34 requires all public school classrooms to post one of a list of "historical documents"....including the Ten Commandments. They may also erect monuments of the same. 1/2

Tomorrow is the first hearing for SB 1, the new version of last session's failed SB 83. Once again, it treats Ohio's universities as Enemy #1, reigniting the right wing's culture wars vs higher education & diversity. Follow along for more about it: 1/13

I will soon have more to say re: SB 1, this session's version of SB 83, the Statehouse GOP's anti-higher education bill. For now, it is worth pointing out SB 1 arguably prohibits university scholarships exclusive to veterans, disabled students, human trafficking survivors & more.

Imagine being the victim of police violence or misconduct, having that captured on a body cam, dash cam, etc. and those same police making you pay up to $750 to obtain that video proof. Policing transparency took a giant hit with the passage of HB 315. www.beaconjournal.com/story/news/l...

In the upcoming state budget, Ohio's prison system is asking for $5.2 BILLION over 2 years, a half billion more than the last budget. They project 1,000 MORE people in Ohio's prisons over that time. And Drug Possession remains the #1 reason someone lands in an Ohio prison....

Yesterday, Gov. DeWine signed SB 237, Ohio's anti-SLAPP bill. This prevents the hijacking of Ohio courts to bully, silence & bankrupt critics. Thanks to Senators Manning & Gavarone for making this possible & protecting free speech. Bipartisan efforts to improve Ohio are still possible.
