We got a message from the university to remove any use of the "DEI", "diversity", "equity", or "inclusion" from all public-facing documents. They said that even "biodiversity" is being flagged by the federal government. We live in the dumbest timeline.

It’s a real toss-up who hated that performance more, Drake or Trump.

I am a Giants fan who is cheering for the Eagles, Aaron. This is about cheering for a Jesse Owens getting gold in front of Hitler moment for me.

see, I'm a nationalist in the sense that this makes me fucking furious, makes me think Musk and Trump are traitors, and that they should be [SHOWN THE ERROR OF THEIR WAYS]

“For this is your home, my friend, do not be driven from it; great men have done great things here, and will again, and we can make America what America must become.”

To whom it may concern: Go birds. Thank you for your attention.

Absolutely begging others on the left to relearn that the U.S. history contains insanely powerful radical elements that we've allowed to be defanged or ceded to the right instead of wielding them like the fiery swords that they are. We used to be very good at this!

Trump just called for a *permanent* displacement of Gazans from their homeland. If you’re on the left and you didn’t vote for Harris, I don’t wanna hear a DAMN thing about how someone needs to do something.

honestly think some of the hesitation here is that no one wants to sound like a crank. i was talking at an event last night and even i felt like a crank while i was speaking!

if I understand American politics correctly, progressivism is something that requires 60 senate votes to work, while national conservatism doesn’t require any votes at all

Government officials and leaders: Be like James Dennehy.

This is Acting FBI Director Brian Driscoll. Last Friday he refused Justice Department order to identify & assist in firing all agents involved in Jan. 6 riot cases, He is said to have pushed back forcefully. Thank you Brian Driscoll!🇺🇸

the really bleakly funny thing about this is that *this is what Beijing wants* , they want these people feeling unwelcome in the US and going home. they'd trade a higher return rate for Chinese STEM PhDs for whatever they get from industrial espionage in a fucking heartbeat.

Senator Andy Kim just went to the USAID building, talked to the security guard there to confirm employees are being barred entry, and then did a press gaggle right there in front to call it out. This is doing something. This is making an effort on messaging. Other Democratic lawmakers: take notes.

cannot be said enough that for a decade a critical number of americans have simply refused to accept that he means what he says

The USA has had two major plane crashes in the last 4 days. The USA had previously not suffered a major plane crash for 16 years. ‘DEI’ programs have existed for decades. So what was it that changed in the last 14 days or so to suddenly cause so many crashes?

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

I think countries around the world should levy tariffs specifically on Tesla in response to US tariffs, as well as banning Twitter as a national security threat driving a wedge between our co-dictators may be the most effective thing they can do

Beyond everything else, it’s pretty funny to claim tariffs have no impact on consumer prices while also limiting tariffs on Canadian oil for fear of higher consumer prices

Though the Justice Dept has deleted information about its Jan 6 prosecutions from its website, a federal judge has issued an order listing and chronicling all of the cases and prison terms Here: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Jan 6 must be fully & conclusively adjudicated in a court of law if this country is to ever move forward. They can't just wish it away unless we let them.

First they came for the immigrants, and I spoke out, because I’ve read the damn poem before and I know how it ends.

The "he's not gonna listen to her" reactions are missing many points. Lots of other people are also hearing it. Lots of people can see him hearing it, then weigh what she's said with what he'll do. Lots of people can see her refusal to surrender these ancient teachings to the latest face of empire

I’m just going to say that AOC is the acting leader of the Democratic Party until someone proves otherwise. At least insofar as she is responding to the moment with leadership.

The way that China Meville writes about a “parasite goodness” in the Iron Council is the most accurate way I’ve seen the feeling of developing any kind of politicized consciousness, at least for someone with my temperament. It doesn’t really feel like you, & you kind of resent it

I'm PRETTY certain the arc of the moral universe, wherever it bends, it isn't towards justice. Sorry.

Not everyone can fight Trumpism and Trumpists directly. But remember this: kindness, decency, and fidelity to American values are defiance in the face of Trumpism. So be kind, decent, and faithful, particularly to the many kinds of people despised and attacked by Trumpists. That’s revolutionary./1

History has consistently demonstrated that direct support for authoritarianism is relatively narrow. It thrives through surrender and acquiescence by elite institutions.

No one defending Musk really believes anything they’re saying. You don’t have to engage with the smokescreens they’re throwing up.

"Well, Grant, we've had the devil's own day today, haven't we?" "Yes. Lick 'em tomorrow though." - Grant and Sherman after the disaster of the first day of Shiloh, April 1862. They won the next. Today is one of the bad days in American history. Better days will come.

How about Mariska Hagitay kicking ass in an R-rated Liam Neeson-style action picture? I'd go see that.

oh, youre here from tik tok? (chuckle's lightly ) Is that like reddit for babies

Yup, @jamellebouie.net has this exactly right. What these guys are celebrating/pursuing/yearning for is not masculine energy, it's *adolescent* energy. Drinking Red Bull, crushing Call of Duty, refusing to clean your room. It is indescribably pathetic. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/18/o...

If I was a teen who lost access to tiktok I would simply learn to appreciate the professionalism and higher production values of linear broadcast television

When I look at a piece of art I of course enjoy the aesthetics of it, but the real joy comes from trying to understand the artist’s message and purpose, and maybe get a little insight into the mind of the person who created it. Generated art is definitionally devoid of that purpose. Dead.

There are a fair number of reasons why I might block someone here, but ultimately, what a lot of the blocking comes down to is "I saw you being an asshole." Maybe to me, maybe to someone else, maybe just in one's general expression to the world. They might disagree with my assessment. That's fine.

I also think all the social media posts like "no one should ever used jarred garlic" and "there's no excuse for using pre-shredded cheese" don't exactly help convince young people that cooking can be relatively low-stress. Normalize shortcuts for weekday meals.

Jeff Bezos never wanted this cartoon to become public. He killed it, and as a result, pulitzer prize editorial cartoonist Ann Telnaes quit. Make sure everyone sees this cartoon.

Everything stated in this post is a provable fact. You are entitled to your own opinion. You are not entitled to your own facts. Looking at YOU, 2020 election-deniers.

I think that third passage has some VERY broad applications

Happy New Year from Dorothy Parker (and me).

I very much wanted to like menudo and very much did not and was told not to be too embarrassed because I was far from the first white boy to abandon a bowl by the halfway mark.
