Elon Musk said DOGE made a mistake by cutting USAID’s Ebola prevention but it had been “restored.” That’s not true, current and former officials told me and @johnphudson.bsky.social. “There have been no efforts to ‘turn on’” Ebola prevention, said Nidhi Bouri, who oversaw team until January.

My Trick? Cheap.

Michelle Trachtenberg, star of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Harriet the Spy,” has passed away at age 39, according to the New York Police Department.

My colleagues and I have been working to break news + write stories holding powerful people accountable. These are the top stories on our homepage right now, one of which I worked on. Our newsroom work is continuing. No one has ever told me what to write. If that changes, I’d speak out and leave.

my student: the ides of March are coming up me: my student: the Senate has the chance to do the funniest thing possible, that’s all I’m saying

Strongly suspect this Amy Gleason thing runs about 48 hours.

none of the important stories right now are coming out of white house press briefings anyway.

Do you know (or are you) a senior scientist in the USA who might like to move to Canada in the near future? The 2026 call for CERCs (Canada Excellence Research Chairs) was posted last month: 🧪 ⚛️ 🔭 🇨🇦

I'm sure @muskratjohn.bsky.social will have Warhamster things to say about this...

Protect trans kids and trans adults! Trans rights are Human rights.

inventing an LLM that, regardless of the query entered, responds by informing you that generously buttered noodles, sprinkled with just a quarter cup of parsley for color and freshness, are the perfect blank canvas for practically any stew or braise

I think I can explain this. As long as I've been following US politics, everyone involved in public discourse has obeyed Murc's Law: Dems are the only ones with agency, the only ones making choices for which they are accountable; the right merely reacts, is driven to its behavior by the left.

Public discourse makes much more sense once you realize that "merit," like so many other terms, is being used as a synonym for "white."

Don't let anyone tell you that you can't live your dreams

Go figure

it's going to be important, when all of this is said and done, that doge staffers like gavin kliger and luke farritor are held civilly and legally responsible for their actions, because from a moral and justice standpoint, the alternative is unmentionable on this and any website.

Weird how much the NBA has changed, 20 years ago shot distribution looked like two squirrels chasing each other but now it just looks like my parents fighting?

i hope he sends it to the judiciary again, specifically, the judge currently questioning whether they’re afoul of the appointments clause

*every other nomination announcement* oh cool, that guy has personally harassed me on the internet

Donald Trump is a babbling fool talking about Elon Musk's email demanding federal workers respond to him about what they did last week: "A lot of people are not answering because they don't even exist." "You're sort of semi-fired." Donald is unwell.

Running thread of people trying to normalize the sieg heil. It's not an "Elon gesture", it's not autism, it's not your heart going out, it's not parody or trolling. It's fucking despicable. Don't ever let this shit become normal. Fuck any excuse given, there is none. Zero tolerance. 1. Elon Musk

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

“Like how can you be a remotely competent historian without insisting upon a Great Man interpretation that actual historians rejected ages ago?”

It's weird how everyone in the world knows a Nazi salute when we see it, with the notable exception of journalists and their editors.

Apparently at some point my middle name on a document was changed from the actual name to just the first initial (it's like this as far back as my old passport from 2007). Means my MN Drivers License is the same way. It is now causing iiiiiisssssuuuuuueeees

“HELLO FREE PRESS WATCH ME EXTORT THIS GOVERNOR RIGHT NOW”

Really good piece. Other Democrats in power need to look at what AOC is doing right now and follow her example. One of the worst and most frightening aspects of this moment is seeing how many Dems in leadership roles seem resigned to defeat.

for instance, in 2015, "we should kill the president if he declares himself king" would be a pretty uncontroversial thing to say, whereas in 2015 it is plausibly a true threat.

By the way, this is one of the issues where you might be able to make some headway with GOP reps if you live in a rural district. It has always been the heavily red rural districts that stopped them from destroying USPS in the past. Reps know their constituents depend on USPS.

say what you will about the ultra rich of 150 years ago, at least they built libraries and roads

Republicans could easily stop Trump and Musk’s liquidation of government functions their constituents rely on. Just a small handful—literally single digits—could work with Democrats and end it. Instead they meekly go along while privately begging for dispensation. www.politico.com/news/2025/02...

Precisely what we warned about when the emails first went out.

This is in fact a real picture and it will work nicely in the ads next year about the military families devastated by Elon's illegal firings.

Watching the first season of Hannibal and I gotta say, the food looks incredible.

Ok, we’ve got the fifty story hulking lizard monster…like a dinosaur but it breathes fire. But we need a potential nemesis…something that could take on this titan and win. Ideas? 🙋‍♂️: Moth.

I get we're all numb to this but another way of looking at Trump pushing 25% auto tariffs is the world's richest auto executive trying to ban much of his competition

me in 2077: what people forget is that there were a half dozen plane crashes each month before the Great AI Plane Skyfall of 2025 grandson: wow so everybody thought AI was going to fix all of that? me: haha what? oh. no. not even kind of. No

They screwed this all up.

how many fucking times do these brainless dipshits have to do this before they stop slamming the country’s collective dick in a car door

white nationalist men are too emotional to be in charge

Looking for a colorist for a project. Link me your portfolio!

A scandal calling the basic fitness of the president & every one of his major subordinates into question. Any child would know better than to fire the bird flu people, & would rightly expect to be punished if they had done so

Timeline cleanse: There is a very hefty beaver living and thriving on the Chicago River and I personally think that the city should name her Sigourney Beaver but my fellow citizens have come up with some other good suggestions 🦫💚 blockclubchicago.org/2025/02/18/a...
