Defending Climate Literacy: A Response to NOAA's Guide Removal geogramblings.com/2025/02/23/d...

🌍 My thoughts on the removal of NOAA's Climate Literacy guide by the current administration and how you can still access this vital resource. Let's keep promoting climate education and awareness. Read more on my blog! 🌱#ClimateChange #ClimateLiteracy #NOAA #Resist

My next #CoffeeGeogPod recording is with a Climate Ambassador who researches and works in public engagement in conservation spaces. So don't forget to pose your question using the hashtag #GeogQOverABrew!

🧵THREAD (1/4) Everyone can do their bit to #resist. It doesn't have to be overt, nor in a manner that could put your wellbeing or position in jepody, especially if you don't have the privilege to do so. One way to resist is to save, archive, promote, re-tout, and share work and research...

Didn’t know how much I needed this right now! 🐶

I received this book in the mail today and I can't wait to dig into it! I can't think of a more important topic than traditional indigenous ecological knowledge right now. Tagging @ecohugger.bsky.social as the editor (very worth a follow)!

Think solar farms are bad for nature? Think again. Those designed for nature in East Anglia are teeming with birdlife - including threatened species. A new study reveals why. ⤵️ @eastangliabylines.co.uk

#EduSky #ClimateChange this looks like some great stuff for teaching on climate change. I like the cumulative co2 vs vulnerability index data. I did something similar with students in my stats class last year.

At the core of #ClimateCrisis is a crisis of values: "I come from an Indigenous community.. called Otomi Toltec... We have a lot of values around respect for nature, reciprocity, reverence, intergenerational collaboration, and seeing nature as an extension of us and us as an extension of nature."

The Stonewall Riots happened because trans people, particularly of color, rose up against state violence. You can’t even begin to tell the story without our trans ancestors and elders. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/13/n...

Ok this is cool! I was wrong in my previous post about the Gulf. Here’s some history about #Chalchiuhtlicue en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chalchi... and a pronunciation guide youtu.be/1pklyVXkYgk

Wooooo! My GIF has made it into the database! #Geography #StarTrek #Spock Use liberally… 😜 @seanferrick.bsky.social @ahamill.bsky.social @andy3e.bsky.social

Excited to return to Uni of #Bedfordshire for the #Sustainability in Education Conference. At the opening lecture with 17yo Liv from @sosukcharity.bsky.social and the theatre is packed ✊ I’ll be delivering a #ClimateAmbassadors workshop on the DfE requirements re: climate action in schools.

I don’t want to see a single atlas or #Geography textbook call it the #GulfofAmerica. Nothing to do with naming convention, history etc (couldn’t find an Indigenous term for the whole body of water); rather a narcissistic gesture of the person behind the name. As toxic as one of its oil spills ☠️

I was just told that I have to remove “climate” from the title of an ongoing grant if I want to keep it. And publications from that grant cannot include “climate” and other forbidden words. I can’t believe I’m writing this from the United States of America. #AcademicSky

I’m cautious about drawing too many parallels with my own experience of a few years back, given the language in these messages was far worse…but this story is a *good* example of people not speaking out and challenging discriminatory behaviour when they really should: www.bbc.com/news/article...
