...and the others don't think at all.

4. You can see these nuances run in both directions so I agree w/ @mikegrunwald.bsky.social that even if you want to quibble about the likelihood of US crop yields falling by half because of climate change, *any* negative effect on yields is big cause for concern for food security, nature & climate.

3. One thing this study didn't look at is feedback loop between lower yields per hectare -> agriculture's land footprint expands even more -> even more warming. We estimated a few years ago that with "only" a 15% decline in crop yields, ag would need to expand another 265 Mha to feed everyone.

2. As shown in table above, yield declines are projected in the RCP8.5 scenario (high emissions) & RCP4.5 (moderate emissions). I gather people's opinions differ here but we may not actually be on the path anymore for the high RCP8.5 scenario so perhaps the worse-case scenarios can be avoided. But!

"The secret to being a bore...is to tell everything." -- Voltaire This is especially true in public speaking. Many scientists feel they need to include every detail. But no one is going to remember much about your presentation. What do you want them to remember? Focus on that.

President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni shared a synchronized eyeroll so powerful it could be classified as an international sanction, yes, we all know exactly who it was aimed at.
