Day 2. Started sore and the sun was beating down but still went slightly further than I did yesterday in the same amount of time. #SummerRunningSeries #DevsWhoRun

Day 1 of recording my progress of getting back into it. Keeping it slow and following Hal Higdeon’s beginner plan for now to get my feet back under me. Still got 15 straight mins of running with no walking and totaled a little over 2 miles. Happy with the start! #SummerRunningSeries #DevsWhoRu

Inspired by @ajames.dev, @marktechson.com, and @abbeyperini.dev, I’ve wanted to participate in #75DaysOfHobbies. Two of my biggest hobbies are cooking and golf. But as a dad to a little one, I don’t have too much time. So I’m pulling a wild card and doing something different: #SummerRunningSeries

For those that missed it, I’m building a new website all about the intersection between pull requests, DevOps, and team building. New article and first newsletter dropping on Monday so be sure to check it out and subscribe!

We've got availability at Set Studio this summer! We're wrapping up some great work which we can't wait to show you, but for now check out some of the stuff we've achieved 👇 If you've got a project idea cooking, we'd love to hear it. set.studio or hit me up with [email protected]

The Index #99 is here and it's all about AI — the truly important stuff, whether you're a fan of it or not. piccalil.li/the-index/99/

Happy national running day to all who celebrate! Started my day with 2.5 slow miles as I’m starting to get back into it.

Yes, AI isn’t perfect. Yes, there are a lot of people grifting its capabilities. But I’ve also started to notice a lot of people blindly adopting Ai tools, and then start to blame the Ai output to cover poor internal processes.

Tonight I made my all time favorite sandwich for dinner. Homemade turkey breast (you read that right), a homemade sweet and spicy tomato jam, bacon, lettuce, and mayo on an onion roll. Still have plenty of turkey and jam and can’t wait for lunch tomorrow.

tab driven development amirite

This is present in company culture too where every project has a code name with an acronym. And if you weren’t there when it was decided you’ll eventually end up in a meeting where you have no idea what anyone is talking about.

I love the pull request process. When implemented correctly, it can help level up teams and increase morale while quickly delivering high quality code to production. However, too often it’s treated as a rubber stamp process with little value. So I created a site to help teach how to do it right!

The curse of craving more social interaction, feeling uncomfortable during it, drained afterwards, and yet wanting to do it again and again.

The initial site is done. Looking to ship with two articles (with more already in the hopper). First article is done and edited. Second should be done later today. All we have left is some review and cleanup, but on track for a Monday launch 👀

The React docs have gotten a lot better about conveying this too! I’ve shared this particular page with soooo many developers during PRs, knowledge sharing sessions, etc react.dev/learn/you-mi...

sometimes people will say, “all the tech discourse is still on X” but I posted about React on both platforms yesterday and ALL of the tech discourse happened on bsky my feed on bsky is way more tech than on X, too sample size of 1 but it feels like the tech discourse is, in fact, on bsky now

AI has always promised to help people spend more time doing valuable work by automating the manual, repetitive, toilsome tasks so that software developers can be free to use their time on "something better". That's not what's happening.
