A poem I posted over at The Bad Place for Top Tweet Tuesday this week! ‘Phoenix’ was first published by the Poets Directory in 2021, and then in the collaborative anthology ‘Sea Between Us’ from Nine Pens Press in 2022.

To say I’m stunned would be an understatement! Thank you so much @markantonyowen.com for nominating my poem ‘We are not gold’ for Best Single Poem Written in the @forwardprizes.bsky.social and for publishing it in @afterpoetry.com last year. I am beyond grateful for your support of my work 🙏

‘In my beginning is my end’ Beginnings and endings are our theme for next week’s TopTweetTuesday on Twitter/ X. Poet @georgiahilton.bsky.social will be hosting. Check our pinned tweet for the brief. ☝️ thank you 🙏

Word of the day is most definitely ‘hurkle-durkling’ (19th-century Scots): to linger in bed long after it’s time to get up.

Lovers of #ekphrastic #poetry will find this a very satisfying read. A powerful, punchy sonnet from @seanaaburke.bsky.social - Medusa gets the last word!

I still think the opening poem of my third collection, Imagined Sons (Seren, 2014), is one of the best I've written. tinyurl.com/awvfe39f

Unlike cynicism, hopefulness is hard-earned, makes demands upon us, and can often feel like the most indefensible and lonely place on Earth. Hopefulness is not a neutral position either. It is adversarial. It is the warrior emotion that can lay waste to cynicism. ~Nick Cave (the Red Hand files)

I very much enjoyed this interview. Mark discusses his 9 syllabic forms (a first!) and we’re also treated to a fine selection of his poems, including the Pushcart Prize nominated ‘Conkers’. www.blackboughpoetry.com/mark-antony-...

James Bond movies never show the part where the supervillain collects government subsidies to build his death tech.

Thrilled to have my little cursed poem in this new anthology from Broken Spine Arts. Available now! Thanks to editor Alan Parry.

Such a beautiful poem and wonderful form: Jericho Brown’s “Duplex (I Begin with Love)”
