Don't kid yourself, Shallow, we all know the dog wasn't even there in YOUR playthrough 🙄

It's possible, though the sudden teleport back to your previous death with the red screen effect should make it pretty obvious. But even that aside, I'm convinced it was a conscious decision.

I said there were no TYPOS, though :P I'm pretty sure the blue text in my copy is darker than usual, as well. Though, considering Mark Z.'s equal obsession with detail, I'm wondering if this, too, is intentional in some way.

I'm still not convinced of that, because there IS a single point in the game where the player is truly stripped of all their weapons - in the hospital. If the author wanted to just take the guns away at the end, then it'd also mean they'd do the same here, but didn't. Which is very curious.

I mean, hell, this is the same person that made the conscious decision to add a sample of "Sign of Evil" to the D_RUNNIN "remix", a song that not only plays in a map called "HOUSE of Pain", but also in the only level where the player canonically dies. The WAD is full of things like that.

Yes, but since it ties into the idea that the beach ending might not be the "real" one, I feel like there's more to it. As for the dummy item, it just further underlines how deliberate this was: Not just adding the fists, but making sure they work correctly, both of which are unnecessary at the end.
comment in response to post
This was 100% a deliberate choice. After clearing the inventory, the game doesn't give just one, but TWO items back. If it was an oversight, I wouldn't question it. But this seems to be on purpose. There are no typos in House of Leaves.

So maybe the fists are another way of telling the player to keep going. After all, if you've still got a way to fight, that means there's still a fight left. This then begs the question - when IS the fight truly over? 4/4

As others have pointed out, you can only get here by not confronting the house fire, potentially the only event that actually happened to the (fictional) author. Since the whole game is a trip through their memories, it'd stand to reason you'd have to confront ALL of them. 3/4

Surely, if the creator wanted to underline the idea that this is the TRUE ending, then taking something away that helped you achieve said ending would hammer that point home. "Why keep fighting? You did it!" Unless, of course, this is NOT the true ending. 2/4

Shane Frost's comics (current): Not a video game, but I make the rules! I'm such a sucker for sappy romance, especially if it involves non-human creatures learning to find love. It's like crack to me, I just can't stop. Even the pornographic bits are extremely tasteful and just so... beautiful! ❤️💘❤️

How strange, you seem to have accidentally posted a screenshot of the Gamecube version, rather than the superior HD version. Surely, this was a mistake, but I hope you'll do better next time! (I'm kidding I know this is like sending you death threats)

But what if you buy Gex for the 3DO and PS1 instead?

Yeah, the whole saviour-part becomes really silly when you consider that the only thing separating Gordon from the average scientist was him wearing a hazard suit. He could have sent Kleiner to Xen and he'd have taken care of it. Well, and married the Gonarch, of course.

That's why Blue Shift is superior to HL1 💅 Totally agree, though. At some point, it just feels condescending. Like, really? Only *I* could have wiped out that bandit camp? I didn't even need a medkit, chill. Let me be awesome through my actions, not YOUR words.
