York Philosophy's Professor Kristin Andrews has a fascinating new article out in Science today! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Fuck this "Canada as 51st state" framing. Why are we allowing the narrative to be set in this way? The framing should be "America starting an illegal war with Canada" because THAT IS LITERALLY WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT.

The University of Pittsburgh confirmed Friday that there would be no new Ph.D. offers of admission while Pitt works to understand how reduced federal aid could impact the institution.

Shoutout to Governor Janet Mills! This is the kind of courage we need.

@jeffsebo.bsky.social @birchlse.bsky.social and I put a lot of philosophy into our new Science Perspective on animal consciousness. Mill's analogical argument + inference to the best explanation + careful experiments = justification for consciousness in many animals. Where might it end?

Best visualization of visual snow (which I've had my entire life) I've seen. Also why I'm night-blind (it's magnitudes worse in the dark) and why my doctor says I shouldn't drive! I've seen many optometrists, neurologists, etc. about this and they all have no clue what's going on.

Finally, getting around to this wonderful book. Only a couple chapters in but his historical/contextualist approach is great - stems from Reinhart Kosselleck rather than folks like Skinner or Henrich. The idea that the Idealists were writing during a Sattelzeit shapes much of his interpretation.

The Memory Palace doing what we can to share the love of philosophy of memory more widely. ❤️❤️❤️ ¡Besos! #philsky #philscisky

Good morning to this man, and this man only #bbcqt

Indispensable, information rich talk from @kevinlala.bsky.social . Should be watched by anyone doing #genetics, #evolution, or race studies. Maybe I’ll share some thoughts later. #sts #philbio #hps underline.io/lecture/1051...

Michigan? You mean South-Southwest Ontario? Montana? You mean Lower Alberta?

Maddow: If you don't have Bluesky yet, I recommend it. It is a social media network that doesn't make me want to stab myself in the eye with a rusty fork

This just in: Kant confirms Donald Trump does *not* have a good will and so does not deserve happiness in the afterlife we must posit by the requirements of practical reason.

Fuck Norman Kemp Smith (1872–1958) #philosophy

everyone saying “go birds.” yes exactly birds are wonderful

If you compare the history of gaming to the history of movies, 1996-2004 was the rough equivalent of 1930-1980. A tiny golden age in between "still working out the medium" and "massive franchises dominate everything".

Well just received this email regarding a paper under review:

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

A Purdue prof!

Came across this fascinating article by Camus in the Atlantic (June 1953). His concern: to complain that everyone keeps characterizing him as an absurdist, rather than just considering/criticizing a view he has come across.

Trudeau: I think Canadians are a little perplexed as to why our closest friends and neighbors are choosing to target us. I don’t think there are a lot of Americans who wake up in the morning saying, "Oh, damn Canada. Oh, we should really go after Canada."

Listen I love Kant but assigning 100+ pages each week seems excessive

Received this by email just now from NSF. Despite the court order delaying implementation of the executive order.

This is only the beginning.
