Like my father before me, I have on more than one occasion been physically ejected from the corporate offices of the Chicago Cubs baseball club.

Man, the Jays have lucked out this inning.

Stop. Bunting.

My opinion of the torpedo bat is that nobody can distinguish correlation from causation anymore.

George, my friend, it’s been real, but….

He is Giménez.

Man, "DFA'ed before April" is about as bad as it gets.

Watching how the Orioles pitch Santander tells you a lot about where they think his weaknesses are, and they would know them pretty well.

Scherzer’s thumb becomes a problem after 45 pitches? No problem: Make him the closer.

Good to see Schneider lay off a couple of pitches he would’ve chased last year.

The patented based-loaded-walk-sacrifice-fly-wild-pitch-sacrifice-fly four-run rally.

Update on my fantasy team: Following Opening Day, my team is 10th of 10 with negative-8 points. So it’s going well.

Holy crap, Vladdy looks sculpted.

It’s a rare Blue Jays season that I enter without great hope or expectation of success, but that I also recognize could go really well if a few things break right. It’s good to be in the position of being able to simply accept what comes and enjoy what I can. Happy Opening Day.

If there'd been a bracket to determine the Blue Jays' opening Day cleanup hitter, mine would have been busted in the first round.

A constant refrain from Atkins and his front office, over the years, has been that they "want to put our players in position to perform their best." It's remarkable how often they seem to fall short of that goal, even now in their tenth year running the club. I'd love to know why.

This makes the Kirk deal look like an incredible bargain.

I'm doing my first fantasy draft in ages tonight, and getting annoyed about all the non-Jays I now have to start paying attention to.

So, the OD roster would be: LF: Schneider/Roden CF: Straw/Lukes RF/DH: Springer/Santander 3B: Wagner/Clement SS: Bichette 2B: Gimènez 1B: Guerrero Jr. C: Kirk/Heinemann The positions are approximate— Santander will get LF time, etc. Once Varsho gets back, it’ll change again. Not bad, some upside.

I’m happy with this; I think Kirk will be a solid catcher throughout this contract, maybe more. As far as I can recall, Kirk is also the first homegrown Blue Jay in the Atkins era to sign an extension beyond his free-agent eligibility. It would be nice if Vlad became the second sometime this year.

Loperfido is a chaotic bundle of talent that needs sorting out and organizing, and Buffalo’s the best place to do that.

Shapiro speaks rarely, and only when he feels a need or an opportunity. So talking at length with the Jays' beat writers about Vlad's situation -- and exuding positivity about a potential deal -- is interesting. I see it primarily as regaining the narrative and putting the ball back in Vlad's court.

Since the story on the @DeptofDefense's website on Jackie Robinson has been deleted, here are the details of his service in the United States military. In 1942, Robinson was drafted and reported to Fort Riley, Kansas. By early 1943, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant before joining the

Tough break. Those things have a four-to-six-month rehab timeline.

For the lawyers out there: "The Philadelphia Phillies have filed suit against software companies Zelus Analytics and Teamworks Innovations, accusing the companies of breaching an agreement promising the team exclusive rights to a baseball analytics platform." assets.alm.com/39/b4/db48c7...

There hasn’t been a better time to launch a third party in the United States in a hundred years than it is right now.

If Vlad didn't want to talk about his contract situation after spring training started, then he shouldn't have talked numbers with Rojas and Jere on ESPN (15+ years, <$600M). He re-opened this can of worms, and now he has to deal with it.

The problem with statements made for an audience of one is that they're still heard by an audience of everyone.

“Toronto offered a deal that was in the $500MM range overall but included deferred money. The NPV would have landed between $400MM and $450MM.” I’ve got no problem with the Jays making that offer with the deferred money, and I think it slightly increases the odds Vlad might yet sign here long-term.

Gimenez’s on-base percentage will also help keep Kirk out of double plays.

My Tramp? Super.
