Het was lang geleden dat ik nog eens een boek aan de kant heb geschoven, maar 'Absalom, Absalom!' van Faulkner is té taai voor me. Jammer, want ik vond 'Unvanquished' briljant. Maar dat was gebald, zintuiglijk en concreet; 'Absalom, Absalom' is oeverloos gepsychologiseer in oeverloze zinnen.
