Look like? To many of us in the rest of the world the USA is virtually there!

My Canadian husband’s father was there, along with 3 of his brothers - yes 4 brothers! All survived, although one of his brothers was killed a few days later as they advanced into France.

Who is β€œDuchess Meghan”? She’s either the Duchess of Sussex or Meghan Markle, or maybe Meghan Windsor . . .

And it’s a very fine between the two - I don’t envy any writer who tackles such a complex issue, which also has such a long and complex history and relationship, both politically and faith-based.

I believe one huge problem is to separate the actions of Israel, the state, from Israel, the homeland of the the Jewish faith. To me it is not antisemitism to abhor the political actions of Israel, the state, separate from being Jewish, but to do so immediately incurs the antisemitism response.

How does anyone know exactly who they are? Anyone can get that clothing from an army surplus store . . . and why does any one of them need to cover their face?

How much more stupid can he get or sound? These ramblings are bizarre coming from the so- called president of the USA (we all know he just does as he’s told) πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

In 3-1/2 years no new factories will have been build and previous sources of goods elsewhere will have found new, stable buyers for their product. The USA will be frantically searching for what it needs while the rest of the world is trading advantageously with each other.

Canada does not elect judges, nor does the UK - in fact the UK never has - that’s why it has an impartial judiciary for the last 1,000 or so years! πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

It’s getting to that time of year when Canadian apples from last year in Controlled Atmospheric storage are running low, and the early new crop won’t be available until later in August, but there should be some Canadian ones available if you ask a produce manager.

1st cousin marriage was far more likely 200+ years ago when the pool of eligible partners was far more limited than it is now, especially in rural communities. It’s very rare now when choices are infinitely much greater so why the need to debate or change anything?

I’m dual English and Canadian - and love English history; born and raised on this stuff - my playground as a child was a real ruined castle - Tutbury where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned for a while back in 1569 and Henry IV was raised in 1380s - his local, The Dog and Partridge was mine 😊

Hereditary appointment, Head of State but politically neutral, so can only can advise (the late Queen had years of experience to draw on), Head of the Church of England etc. So largely a ceremonial role, but in terms of wealth generated minimum 10x the cost to the public purse. Goodwill - infiniteπŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

Not quite accurate and very outdated - the Divine Right of Kings is the doctrine that he is appointed by God and is only subject to God’s authority. It ended with the reign of James II in 1689 and the Enlightenment. Unfortunately, the USA President seems to think it currently applies to him.

Trump is very envious of the British Monarchy - he actually believes decorating with gold everywhere makes him look like a king in a palace - so we just invite the real King of England, King of Canada etc. to put him in his place! πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

You really don’t understand how a monarchy works - do you? Sexist maybe, but a King takes precedence over a Queen, so the husband of a Queen by right is not a King, unless he is also a King of somewhere else by right, but a King’s wife is always a QueenπŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

I was taught that dashes are not punctuation; I certainly never used them in formal papers, either in the UK or here in Canada. I do use them in informal writing to indicate a flow ideas or for emphasis - but they’re mostly superfluous.
