It may be the natural fibers that they use in the padding of the seats. Although the foam in the padded dashes would be a good guess, but I swear I've smelled it in earlier ones with steel dashes

I more meant in old cars, 80s or older. Toyotas all have a distinct smell I've noticed, I think it's the glue. But older 60s and 70s cars have a distinct, not quite musty smell. Not new car smell

They require a very dialed in carburetor. If it's out of balance at all, it causes issues
