Its that mental separation, that creation of the abnormal in their minds that makes us uniquely vulnerable. To discriminate against a group, you have to make them abnormal in people's minds first. That's how a lot of allies have lain the groundwork for transphobia, by considering us abnormal
comment in response to post
A lot of the talks from disabled people resonates with me because of that. There's a similar social mechanism to other our experiences as something separate, an undercurrent of "We aren't like you" even from people who are nominally allies with "You're so brave, I could never" type language.

And I do understand that that's only in regards to medical transition, but the barriers in place for medically transitioning sort of blur into the social world too. The concept that we've got some condition, that we're to be pitied, and in some way sick is all over how being trans is talked about.
comment in response to post
I strongly dislike that our access to healthcare hinges on our suffering. That we must endure pain and describe it perfectly to be given legitimacy by medical institutions. That you're allowed to be cis regardless of how you feel but to be trans you're forced to justify yourself.

The amount of "experts" who talk about trans people that think bottom surgery is a day in day out thing handed out like candy is quite frankly shocking

They're mad at that forcible disillusionment, I'm mad at the fact Biden only broke those "norms" to protect his son. Not to address the Supreme Court, or to do anything to protect the countless minorities that will face things far worse than Hunter would've under the next administration.
comment in response to post
Lots of people are mad because they didn't want to confront that information, they want to believe that Biden's pardon should change something because its wrong and selfish, and the uncomfortable information that it won't doesnt sit well with them.
comment in response to post
President Biden abused his power and it changes nothing. Nothing will be worse because of it, nothing is backsliding or crumbling because of it. He abused his power and the seat of the President was already so corrupt that that has no effect.
comment in response to post
The disgusting part of that no one else gets that kind of privilege. Trans people are having protections stipped from us in the US by the Supreme Court as we speak. But what it's not is a "destruction of norms" that have already flown out the window.

Remember folks, if someone's scolding you to be more empathetic for the wealthy, but the said wealthy has never extended empathy for the people who's lives they've destroyed, they're just saying "Shut up poor person, you're disturbing my peace"

Then there's the weird nest of men who've internalised that disgust performance but also still lust after us, so they get angry. Most guys fears of getting 'tricked' have nothing to do with not being aware we're trans, but that we made their pp hard regardless of knowing we're trans
comment in response to post
I appreciate the Simplicity of C because yes, many straight guys' disgust of us is simply feigned as for in-group acceptance. However, I will say they they're transphobia is in fact not all performance as they view us as subhuman puppets that they can secretly lust after and not as people
comment in response to post
Oh let's not use the idea of clocking as a put down. I get the temptation of being catty about trans women who hurt fellow trans women, trust me, but saying stuff like "she's not as stealthy as she thinks she is" just isn't the way.
comment in response to post
Trump supporting trans women don't get to be one of the dolls, they're one of the dolts
comment in response to post
Republicans have entrenched transphobia as a core party position. Democrats though have not made being pro-trans a core position, which means they're constantly flirting with it to see if they can get away with it

Which also leads to this weird innoculation against empathy, where when they actually see the harms of transphobia, they feel kinda guilty, then they get mad at trans people for making them feel guilty
comment in response to post
Actually, thinking on it more, I'm even sure it's about gender most the time. I think a large factor is just that reactionary cycle. They get angry that people judge them for something slightly transphobic, and then do mental gymnastics to justify transphobia to preserve their sense of self
comment in response to post
But I'd say as an origin point, transphobia stems from a deep uncomfortability with gender, and its a reactive response of wanting to not have to think about it and continue the facade that everything is cleanly black and white
comment in response to post
I'd say transphobia is now a right wing thing, but that's because of it being promoted from just regular societal bigotry to a main party position because they found it useful.
