Out today in @natmethods.nature.com : Spotiflow, our transcript localization method for imaging-based spatial transcriptomics. Led by amazing PhD student @albertdm.bsky.social, joint work w @gioelelamanno.bsky.social at EPFL / @scadsai.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/s41... rdcu.be/epIB7

This is the skull of a tortoise embryo imaged with light sheet microscopy. Check out our new article in @cp-iscience.bsky.social to learn how both chemical signalling and mechanical forces sculpt their intricate head scales 🐢🔬🧪 www.cell.com/iscience/ful...

European Fly PIs: please respond to the email we sent out yesterday and help save FlyBase!

Excited to share our new research in @cp-iscience.bsky.social! We reveal that tortoise head scales are sculpted through two distinct developmental processes - chemical signalling and mechanical folding 🐢🔬🧪 @lanevol.bsky.social @genevunige.bsky.social www.cell.com/iscience/ful...

SUSTAINABILITY & #DROSOPHILA - If you keep flies & have tried to re-use containers but then given up on it, please could you let us know & tell us the reasons? We urgently need statements for a publication about sustainability in fly labs. Please, contact [email protected]

New paper out in @pnas.org We followed cells migrating along signalling gradients in 3D, and found they collectively behave as a living droplet - a self-propelling fluid that grows. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

FlyBase needs our help.

#Zebrafish people, this is our time to shine. Let's help keep an important resource up so we can keep talking shit about flies for many many years

URGENT: FlyBase has lost practically all its funding overnight; even user fees are tied up in denied grant funding. 🤬🤯 Any lab using @flybase.bsky.social please donate using the link in post below. This incredible community, on whose backs our #Drosophila labs depend, can't be left out to dry.

It was a pleasure chatting with @jontytownson.bsky.social about our recent work in the @yanlanmao.bsky.social group on 3D segmentation in densely packed epithelia and discussing the benefits of preprints!

Cyril Andrieu, Bren Hunyi Lee & Anna Franz find that cell deformations generated by stochastic actomyosin waves drive random-walk swimming migration in Drosophila adipocytes. Highlight: journals.biologists.com/jcs/article/... Article: journals.biologists.com/jcs/article/... #OpenAccess

*This Wed 4 June 15:00 BST* Register to attend our next Development presents... webinar, celebrating the winners of the @bsdb.bsky.social‬ postdoc poster prize from the Biologists @ 100 conference. We'll hear from @giuliapaci.bsky.social‬ and @shifaant.bsky.social‬ us02web.zoom.us/webinar/regi...

i am here to share what just happened. I just asked a fly colleague if they could share some reagents, and literally in 9 MINUTES they wrote back and said of course, we'll send everything and more. this is reason #834 why the fly community is the best. THE BEST!!! 🪰💪

Great new DNA/Q-Paint method published by our @ucl colleague Sabrina Simoncelli - lucky to have been part of it! Check out the Ecadherin and collagenIV imaging in the fly retina at up to 15micron depth www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Incredible Molly Herring wrote a story on the philosophy behind the work we do at PrakashLab. Wonder & curiosity.. even more important to share when every day is a new attack on the fundamental principles of scientific explorations. Thanks @quantamagazine.bsky.social for this interaction.

Our groundbreaking Dark Sectioning technique is now published in Nature Methods! 🎉 It supercharges existing imaging systems: 🔬 Widefield → Confocal 🔬 Single-photon → Multiphoton 🔬 2D-SIM → 3D-SIM Now integrated in Airy PolarSIM and #FlexSIM! doi.org/10.1038/s415... #Microscopy #Fluorescence

Register now to attend our #DevPres webinar next week, featuring the winners of the @bsdb.bsky.social poster prize, @shifaant.bsky.social and @giuliapaci.bsky.social, and chaired by Abigail Tucker. 4 June at 15:00 BST us02web.zoom.us/webinar/regi...

Join us for the @neuroinformatics.dev Open Software Week at SWC this summer! This event will bring together researchers, developers and users of open-source software for some hands-on training, community-building and hacking. Find out more and apply: neuroinformatics.dev/open-softwar...

How does the adoption of preprinting differ between European countries? Preprint adoption is significantly higher in Western and Northern European countries than in their Southern and Eastern European neighbors. Switzerland has the highest preprint adoption in Europe.

Congratulations to @shuenlim.bsky.social for passing her PhD viva with flying colours! And many thanks to her wonderful examiners @helenweavers.bsky.social and @miewong.bsky.social !

Cannot wait for this to happen. We have a great line up of speakers in preparation. Stay tuned for more information. 🔬🏞️🧑‍💻

‼️10 days left to register and submit your abstract!! Come and join us to help relaunch the UK EvoDevo meetings. An exciting day with friends and good science! Register and submit your abstract here 👉🏻 eshop.qmul.ac.uk/conferences-...

New paper from the lab: Our teeth arose as sensory organs on the outside of the body of ancient jawless fish.!! Congrats to Yara Haridy and the team! Background and video: phys.org/news/2025-05... Open Access Paper: www.nature.com/articles/s41... News and Views: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

I don't think I posted about this yet. COME WORK WITH US AT NATURE METHODS! This is a rare opportunity, and we can't wait for our new colleague. Feel free to contact me with questions.

Many cells during development are exposed to caspase activation and yet survive. Why some die and not others ? We found out that the memory of previous caspase activation bias significantly later death comitment and bias death distribution and single cell decision www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

*Paid internship opportunity* @biologists.bsky.social is looking for a 3-month intern this summer to work across the Node, @prelights.bsky.social and @focalplane.bsky.social If you're interested in #SciCommm & #publishing, and have the right to work in the UK, apply by 5 June 👇

Experimental embryology postdoc available in my lab at the @biology.ox.ac.uk @ox.ac.uk working on the evolution of vertebral counts. Reach out if you’re passionate about EvoDevo, enjoy lab work and microscopy and are into or could get into cichlid fishes. Deadline on the 16th June. Please share!

There's a lot to like in here. We've been involved in providing data analysis / AI training for life scientists for quite some time, but there's a lack of incentives for them to continue with ongoing training beyond stand-alone workshops.

Thrilled to be part of the 2025 cohort and very grateful for the amazing opportunity !

Very honored (and very excited) to be amongst the 2025 Development Pathway to Independence fellows. It is going to be so fun -Also because they partnered me with @stevewilsonfish.bsky.social and that's a match made in heaven-

Happy to publish this News & Views article highlighting exciting new work from Rod Bremner's lab that shows that cell populations with a short cell cycle are intrinsically more susceptible to forming tumours
