Thank you for sharing! The world is a pretty crazy place at the moment, but dwindling glaciers remind us that climate change is still bearing down on the planet. 🌏

Sure thing, I’ve started an email thread between you and the fantastic GLAMBIE core team.

Yes, it’s unfortunately challenging times for both land ice and sea ice these days. The small mountain glaciers surveyed in this study now lose more ice than the entire Greenland Ice Sheet in some years! 🥶

Yes, the data visualisation is well done in this report! The vast majority of the analysis code, and I think perhaps the plotting code, is available at:

With global mountain glacier volume decreasing by about 5.5% during the study period, I suppose the sad reality is that we’re more glaciologists watching less ice each year.

Glacial lake outburst floods — often referred to simply as “GLOFs” — are definitely an increasing hazard in many regions. This assessment didn’t look at GLOFs, but there are lots of other studies documenting their shifting frequency, especially in High Mountain Asia.

That’s a cautionary climate tale indeed! Thank you for sharing! 👀

Yes! Rock glaciers are a poorly understood, and often overlooked, element of the cryosphere. This looks great! 👍

Thank you Evan!
We’re looking for editorial experience in paleo sea level, if you’d like to join ‘The [Publishing] Rebellion’. 😉

I am nudging forward an informal project to create an open-access repository of photos from ice-sheet old timers at Camp Century. It's moving slower than I'd like, but it sounds like I should talk to your dad!

Thank you for sharing this! Here is a photo of the memorial plaque for that helicopter accident, located at Pituffik: "Chaplain (Capt) Paul L. Lynch ... Killed near Camp Century 24 August 1961."

Agreed.
I also appreciate the idea that scientists need non-scientists to link them to impacted societies.

Twenty years ago, climate skeptics were saying that anthropogenic climate change wasn’t real. Ten years ago they were saying it was real but the impacts would be too small to matter. Now they’re saying it’s real and the impacts can be positive.
What a journey. 🙄
