These are my companions for the weekend. :) #medievalhistory #phdlife #history #books

I look at Saint Louis, and Saint Louis looks at me.

Great job by Ruben (@rubenbolling.bsky.social).

In this world of crazy injustice and rising evil, being able to study history — even when much of what you read is far from your research interests — is something to be grateful for. #medievalstudies #medieval #phdlife

That’s a sextet only Miles Davis’ could beat. 🔥

I’m buying my groceries exclusively from Costco now, by the way. I might end up with more food than I need, but my values aren’t compromised.

Off to the library. Starring today is… the Council of Trent!

Sharing songs and albums with friends provides me with a glimpse of older, more normal times. The question ‘have you listened to the new [artist] album?’ still evokes a warm, fuzzy, cozy feeling, like a duvet woven from sound waves by people we care about.

Estou sozinho nessa?

Saiu o disco novo do Mogwai e eu adorei :) open.spotify.com/album/3wub9o...

Nothing is nowhere. Nothing was never anywhere. That’s why it’s been everywhere. Now go and write history.

How To Be a Writer, #111: Open laptop Look into the void Scream into the void Consider that maybe the void also sometimes feels this way about you Ask the void if it takes milk Choose a nice mug for the void And maybe a chocolate biscuit Lose yourself in the void Tea

As I intend to leave all (or at least most) Meta platforms, I’ll allow myself to publish more personal stuff here. Hoping Bluesky doesn’t become part of the fascist coalition. Otherwise we’ll just have to go back to calling each other and chatting about our lives. I like that idea, actually.

Sometimes I wish I was one of those pampered dogs that get manicure and have facial hidration sessions. I like to imagine I’d make a great spoiled Corgi.

Nothing better than reading medieval Portuguese documents during a blizzard. :)

Day 3 of intensive Latin studies during winter break! :)

"Public investment" vs "Wasteful Subsidy." The only problem with this clever Singer cartoon is that some people might actually not get that it’s sarcastically illustrating the perception problem, NOT telling the truth. Just in case it actually needs to be said, the truth is the opposite.

Posting this with a small delay, but two days of winter-break-intensive-Latin-back-to-basics-study using Wheelock’s textbook have gone by. First conjugation and first declension were a breeze. Today we’ll be looking at the second declension.

SLU’s campus looks so good this time of the year. :) #photography #snow #winter
