“New arrivals bring fresh experiences, diverse perspectives and global connections. You help us to plug into the world, and thrive as a regional hub and a global node,” said SM Lee. This was how cities like London, New York and Shanghai became great centres of culture and prosperity” #immigration

DOGE cut off payments for the electricity, cell phone, and internet service of U.S. government employees who work in a high-risk area in Central America. Meanwhile, DOGE apparently plans to spend $25,000 to install a washer and dryer for their own personal use in a federal office building in DC.

“At least two recent studies have shown that street art makes roads safer. Total crash rates dropped 17 percent on roads where art was painted on asphalt and crashes leading to injuries dropped 37 percent”

Crikey. This is moving quicker than I expected. 'Poland must pursue the most advanced capabilities, including nuclear and modern unconventional weapons.'

Trump shut down entire refugee resettlement system; halted scheduled flights for already-vetted Afghan allies; told Ukrainians we offered temporary sanctuary to that they are now subject to deportation. But, (presumably white) South African farmers are getting some new "rapid pathway to citizenship"

“What this analysis shows is that choosing an extra-heavy vehicle doesn’t make you any safer, but it makes you a bigger danger to other people.” - Insurance Institute for Highway Safety For pickups over 4000 lbs, every additional 500 lbs increased the death rate for crash-partners by 7.

how can businesses possibly make investment/hiring/purchase decisions in this environment?

A very serious country is being governed by very unserious people

I'm of an age to know him better for his acting than his music but in either sphere he was larger than life.

It’s a minor point about today’s chaos, but did I miss Brian Glenn’s pompous dress code question during this guy’s recent Oval Office show and at his Cabinet meeting appearance? Or maybe he asked about the decorum of wearing the hat inside?

Congestion Pricing: Retail sales ⬆️ $900M Theater attendance ⬆️ Restaurant reserv. ⬆️ Foot traffic ⬆️ Traffic crashes ⬇️ 18% Traffic injuries ⬇️ 17% Hudson crossing time ⬇️

"Lower Manhattan's economy has gotten an almost billion-dollar boost in just the first month of congestion pricing's existence, the MTA said on Wednesday." Today in @nyc.streetsblog.org:

HUD gives DOGE access to sensitive personal data, possibly including info on domestic violence victims. Top DOGE official Gavin Kliger has been reposting content from misogynist Andrew Tate. (Reuters, Feb. 7)

New York's (de)congestion pricing, which charges $9 to drive into Manhattan below 60 St, has reduced traffic, increased ridership, reduced subway crime, and is raising funds to fix the decaying transit system. Rare for a public policy to have this many benefits!

An ad put up at a bus stop in London today.

It finally happened: one of my infusion center nurses changed her mind on congestion pricing. Her family said she must be happy about the Trump admin trying to kill it, but she said actually, she may have changed her mind, since it now only takes 25 mins to get to work compared to an hour previously

Who Should Pay to Fix the Sidewalk? The public, of course. It’s weird that it’s even a question. “Denver has made sidewalk upkeep a public responsibility, becoming the largest US municipality to fund and maintain this critical but unsung pedestrian infrastructure.” Via @davidzipper.bsky.social

Accidents down 55% and injuries down 51% since nyc congestion pricing (!!!) www.nydailynews.com/2025/02/22/c...

Dear Mr Musk: Got your email. Just going to update you on one day in my life to save time and be efficient: 1) Woke up 2) Fell out of bed 3) Dragged a comb across my head 4) Found my way downstairs 5) Made a cup

This is the ultimate dick boss move from Musk - except he isn’t even the boss, he’s just a dick.

Apparently no enclosed bike parking, so I will pass 😂😂😂

When they park in the bike lane and tell you to "just go around".

Question: If, as stated by Bove, the reason to drop the Adams charges w/o prejudice is so Adams can work on immigration with the Feds; what happens if Adams is removed as mayor? Are the charges reinstated? If not, why not?

@govmurphy.bsky.social is a full on Trumpster. The only train he is riding is the Trump train 😡😡😡

“EDITORIAL: SECRECY AND DECEPTION ERODE PUBLIC TRUST”, wow, that really sounds like radical thing to say about a local council. 🙄

@mta.info statement on Trump attempt to kill congestion pricing: "Today the MTA filed papers in federal court to ensure the highly successful program ... will continue notwithstanding this baseless effort to snatch [its] benefits away..."

On congestion pricing, the correct framing isn't that the Trump admin killed it, it's that the Trump admin announced that they're going to TRY to kill it. This is going to court, and there's no guarantee Trump is going to win there.

In fact, @mta.info has sued Trump since you posted

@govmurphy.bluesky.social is now officially a Trumpster. SMH 🤦‍♂️🤬

🥜🥜🥜 Rubio said that both sides had agreed to explore “the incredible opportunities that exist to partner with the Russians,” both geopolitically and economically. Chris Wright, the U.S. energy sec, rebuked Britain, calling their target to reduce emissions of planet-heating gases a “sinister goal.”

Even the most disturbing RFK Jr. headline always manages to have a detail inside creepier than you could have imagined. I’m sorry, did you just say Black kids should have a chance to get “re-parented”???? Gift link wapo.st/4hW2xGI

🥜🥜🥜 “Martin…who raised cash for the Capital rioters…who has minimal prosecutorial experience but a hyperpartisan social media presence, must first be confirmed by the Senate, whose members were forced into hiding by the mob of Trump loyalists who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.”

IRS is under WH pressure to give DOGE software engineer Gavin Kliger access to IRS taxpayer data. Kliger is controversial for reposting on social media comments from white supremacist Nick Fuentes and misogynist Andrew Tate.

Trump’s NIH cuts would cut about 18% from NJ’s NIH grants, primarily at Rutgers Health & Biological Sciences

On Friday night, HHS ordered CDC to take down all flu vaccine campaign materials from its website. Materials are starting to come down. For example, a campaign explaining that flu shot can reduce flu severity from "wild to mild" is now offline. Left image is from Friday, right is now Meanwhile...

When I heard Musk say this on Tuesday, my assumption was that it was a programming issue. Because I can code and have written to databases and because I am familiar with other examples of default values being misinterpreted. Yet somehow Musk isn't.

“Foot traffic at…Broadway and Prince Street in SoHo spiked by 20% year-over-year since the introduction of congestion pricing, said Erin Piscopink, the executive director of the SoHo Broadway Initiative, a business improvement district that represents 150 businesses.” gothamist.com/news/vehicle...
