The alternative is never downloading the app at all. If you're worried about extremist echo chambers then I would worry more about 4chan, but we're out in the open here and the point is community. Community doesn't need to be constantly criticized.

I don't know much about these blocklists. It sounds like people can share them between each other? I don't really care. if someone decided Bluesky is the one place in life they just want to talk to a certain type of demographic and nobody else, go for it. It doesn't impact me or you at all.

And if every time I got on an app and it showed me a bunch of stuff that I hate, then I can freely chose to no longer use that app. Why would I? I don't go there to ruin my time. For example Women often get masses of men that are just straight up awful for no reason. I would block them en masse.

Depends on what you want out of your time on the platform I guess. You can have your ideas challenged anywhere you go in life. And it will be. there may be times when I don't want to be inundated with aggressive people that stress me out and don't add any value. I don't have to listen to them.

Like, if I block people at all, I'm authoritarian? I'm not seeing the connection you're making, sounds like alarmism.

It's not really up to any individual to criticize why someone else blocks someone. If they don't want to see someone's views on a particular platform they spend time on, they don't have to, and are not any less respectable for exercising that personal decision.

I think the point of this little exercise is to take stock of how I'm spending my time and identify where some of it might be not useful or even wasteful. Not feeding my brain what I would go out of my way to consume, but rathering consuming only because it's convenient.
