@alastairmci.bsky.social giving fascinating opening address at #ScotlandsFuture connvention in Edinburgh. He starts with a great broad question: "What does it mean to be a human being in Scotland today?"

On my way to the Scotland's Future convention in Edinburgh organised by @indyforumscot.bsky.social. I am honoured to be representing www.christiansforindependence.scot But I hope we will also hear from some who are not pro-indy: a range of views is vital if we are to think radically!

"London must take action, including the immediate recognition of the state of Palestine." Palestinian ambassador to the UK, Husam Zomlot, tells @krishgm.bsky.social the government must "enforce" international legality rather than "calling for it". Read and watch: www.channel4.com/news/all-par...

Talking of #genderbias my hairdresser charges me quite a bit less for a haircut than she charges my wife, but it takes around the same time in both cases. We both have a wash and cut. She says a man's cut is always traditionally cheaper. Why are hairdressers routinely charging women more?

My new scarf has arrived just in time. Will be proud to wear the @scotrefugeecouncil.bsky.social tartan and show support for all those seeking refuge in Scotland, and across the world - and for the human right to seek that sanctuary when fleeing war and persecution.

Good question to @profnicolamcewen.bsky.social at #scvogathering: "Is Scotland too wee, too poor to be independent?" The short answer is "No" says Nicola, but it would depend on political and economic choices including whatever settlement is agreed with rUK. @kezdugdale.bsky.social avoids comment!

Currently at #scvogathering in @uofgpolicy.bsky.social session on Scottish public finances with @profnicolamcewen.bsky.social and @kezdugdale.bsky.social. Good to have clear explanations of lots of core principles, especially noting that income tax is only partially devolved in Scotland.

🟥 'The Westminster effect' means one-in-three Scottish households experience fuel poverty, despite being a net exporter of cheap energy. Read more: https://www.believeinscotland.org/westminster_effect_means_scots_experience_more_fuel_poverty_than_any_eu_nation

Brilliant event in Glasgow today celebrating #Burns and all he means for the Scottish nation. Not a political event but a great gathering of people who want independence celebrating Scottish culture. Great organisation by @believeinscotland.bsky.social

Just attended a profound performance of Handel's Messiah at Usher Hall Edinburgh by a choir of c.100 singers from Edinburgh Royal Choral Union. Not normally my choice of music but it was quite amazing.

Doesn't feel like a very good change of year! Terrible storms with many of Edinburgh's Hogmanay events cancelled (including the fireworks), the people of Gaza face yet more brutal attacks, a very strange man heading to the White House in 3 weeks, and a UK Govt not much better than the Tories! #HNY

SCOTLAND: CULTURAL CRINGE OR CULTURAL CONFIDENCE? Yes Dunbar is delighted to host a cultural evening with food, wine, live music and discussion with the esteemed Scottish writer James Roberton on Fri 7 Feb 2025. Tickets are just £18 until 24 Jan - book at buytickets.at/ydevents/151...: all welcome

I always think of 23 Dec as "Christmas Eve Eve"! Does that make sense to others?

🚨 This is a breakthrough polling result for Scottish independence. It demonstrates that, with the right message, there is a path to a 66% supermajority for Scottish independence. 🔎 Read more: bit.ly/4j0yC1I

The fact that Starmer is sinking while Farage is soaring should ring alarm bells about how our country may soon be overrun by dark forces. Starmer isn’t just losing ground – he’s handing it to Farage. #YouYesYet? www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Very good meeting last night at @scotparl of Cross Party Group on End of Life Choices. Liam McArthur MSP giving very sensitive update on his #AssistedDying Bill. I was pleased to be there in connection with the Scottish Christian Forum on Assisted Dying www.scfad.org.uk

Hello! Yes Dunbar is now here on BlueSky - we shall soon be ditching our Twitter account. If you believe in sensible debate about the case for an independent Scotland please give us a follow (even if you don't agree with us). We aim to bring together a wide range of indy supporters in Dunbar.

@thesnp.bsky.social Is the SNP National Council today in Perth available on live stream? I am booked as a delegate but cannot get to Perth due to weather problems affective travel. #SNP2024

However the vote now goes, that was an impressive debate. Thank you to all our MPs for what cannot have been an easy time. #assisteddying

What a beautiful, beautiful day! A step closer to people being able to have a peaceful, painless death of THEIR CHOICE! This is so monumental ❤️ #assisteddying #wedidit

For those wanting to know more about the progress towards #assisteddying in Scotland, a Bill has been under consideration in the Scottish Parliament for some time, proposed by Liam McArthur MSP. The leading Scottish charity working in this area is Friends at the End: see www.fate.scot

Read in full this important intervention from former Supreme Court president, Lord Neuberger, in support of the #AssistedDying bill👇 www.lawgazette.co.uk/commentary-a...

Very good quality of debate on #assisteddying in House of Commons today. @kimleadbeatermp.bsky.social truly brilliant. Although this Bill only applies to E&W, the arguments are also v important to Scotland. 1/2

We went to see the bear behind Asda in Dunbar - highly recommended!
