The desire to punish (or see someone punished) for poor/bad/harmful choices is the same carceral thinking that underlies all of US Empire. Abolition is for everyone, including those who voted for Tr*mp.

At the core of the counterargument to Trumpism is the ideal that we are all in this together. There is no one who deserves neglect or suffering from the government because of their political views. Not even if they voted for the suffering of others.

this is not a sports ban - that's false. trans girls in CA can still compete in sports - AB1266 was signed into law in 2013 by Gov. Brown, and it mandates trans people be included in school sports. this is Newsom going rogue w/ CIF and blatantly disregarding existing law. Newsom is not a dictator

Infant and maternal mortality increase in State’s with abortion bans. The forced birth policies of the GOP only pretend to care about the fetus, once it’s born they won’t do anything to ensure its health or safety. We need to do better. We can do better.

“3 of the study’s authors write that almost 6 million US children could be affected by long COVID, which is greater than number of kids with asthma” 6 million chronically ill kids How many will be gaslit? Pushed to play through the pain? Told they’re “fine”? What a great time to restrict vaccines

I fucking loathe ICE. I just fucking loathe ICE.

Support and share if you can, Rodney Hinton Jr. is a hero. #FreeRodney givesendgo.com/RodneyHinton...

A horrible story but god bless this woman so accurately reading the ICE goons for filth here

Happy Independent Bookstore Day! Read Maris's piece, then go show your local indie bookstore some love. They're so much more than places to get books--they are places to engage with ideas and others in your community. Staffed by actual humans to help you find the books you didn't know you needed!

Mary Oliver taking us all to task.

THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT IS THE LAW OF THE LAND AND A SUPERSTATUTE AND THE PRESIDENT CANNOT UNDO IT. sincerely, a constitutional law professor who also teaches employment discrimination

The value of a human life should never be measured according to economic contribution. We are meant to do more than just work, pay taxes, prop up capitalism and die. All humans have value, and as soon as we start debating who has the most? The fascists win.

We just published a new study on COVID-19 in Ontario, and it turns out, the way we measured cases may have been way off. Why? Because testing wasn’t equal across age and sex groups. That skews what we think we know. In epi-speak this is called “ascertainment bias”. Here's what we found:

Hi I used to work at Starbucks customer service: if you call or email about this, they are absolutely tracking those numbers, and a sufficient amount of public pushback does make them rethink shit sometimes, so now would be an EXCELLENT time to let them know they’re being ableist shitheads

“You already have poor night vision, why not stare at your phone while you drive at night, too?” See how absurd that sounds? I’m already at a disadvantage, why would I make decisions that put my life and health more at risk?

Sometimes it turns out that your childhood favorite Christian band from the early 90s actually had some bangers 🤷🎧 #Newsboys

Not sure who made this but thank you because I laughed so much

This is all fascinating. I had no idea Ryan Coogler negotiated a contract where he kept final cut, first-line profits, and the rights to SINNERS after 25 years. But the idea of studio execs FREAKING OUT about it ("What if EVERY in-demand creative wants rights over their own work?") is even better.

A massive banner was been furled in DC. It contained the names of Palestinians killed by Israel since October 2023 by Zionist ruling trash in Israel and the US.

yes of course these types of protests are cringe, they’re incredibly cringe, all successful propaganda is cringe. and that weepy sentimentality is one of the things that can eventually make people decide it’s worth taking risks against their own safety and security for something more important

Partner and I were not feeling well enough to protest #chronicallyill #disabled but I feel pretty good about having a loud conversation about the differing ways classic sci-fi and fantasy uphold the imperial project in a local cafè.

Dear white folks.. you may feel a way about it but uh yall might have to keep the protests Because if they don’t send cops to yours? this is a great way to build momentum

me, watching massive turnouts at protests across the entire country: hmm, looks like a political party that promised to fight back and impose consequences on the pieces of shit destroying everything could count on broad popular support 🤔

Wow Chicago! #HandsOff #FiftyFiftyOne (🎥 Marco Foster)

I'm loving how people are romanticizing things like factory work, farming, and sewing. There's nothing romantic about standing in front of a drill press for ten hours a day, carting cow shit in cold weather, or the frustration of repinning some fussy seam. It's all fun until it's bleakly necessary.

March saw the third-highest number of layoffs in U.S. history, and 80% of them were caused by DOGE This was before the tariffs It's just...unbelievable

Based on a somewhat true story 😂

Dear people who may soon suffer food insecurity Listen up, it super fucking sucks and will do lasting psych damage the rest of your life. This is not a joke or exaggeration. What you have on hand will forever after be a source of anxiety. SO. To help you in the coming days here's some tips

The basic formula for peasant meals is grain + legume + flavor/micronutrients. Beans and rice plus whatever produce tastes good sautéed in butter or olive oil and chucked on top of a serving and voilà.
