This guy is like one of 4 Americans who actually went and got their REAL ID and immediately they said it was a fake. Just so everyone knows when they toss your ass in a truck it won't matter what passport or identification you have they'll throw it in the street and you're gone

All set up at Fanime artist alley table 805. Don’t look too close, there is new art I haven’t posted online yet 🫣

If you're boycotting Microsoft and all their subsidiaries (that includes Bethesda) and going cold turkey on Oblivion is hurting you, Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is out tomrorow after years in early access. Oblivion-style mechanics, big open world, but with a funkier setting & more story focus

The dumbing down of America is evident in the slow decay of substantive content, a kind of celebration of ignorance. Carl Sagan

Maybe it's called a corpse flower because that's a dead ballerina stuffed in a bucket.

Food for thought

For two years the people of Sweden sacrificed first bulls then men to end the famine that devastated the land. On the third year, they seized their King, Domalde, and sacrificed him to the gods. The next year was prosperous. #FolkyFriday 🖼️: E. Werenskiold

Hoenir was an early leader among the Aesir, and was there when humanity was crafted: it was he who gave humanity reason and logic. He was sent to lead the Vanir after the war but was a poor leader without Mimir; so the Vanir slew Mimir, thinking Hoenir his puppet. #FolkyFriday

Leader of the Sikh cavalry of Kanhaiya, Rani Sada Kaur (1762 – 1832), she rose to the ranks of leader of Kanhaiya and defended her people, indeed uniting more people and helping to consolidate and centralize power in Punjab by blade and diplomacy. #FolkyFriday

On this week's episode we're digging into the history and folklore of Lincolnshire, hanging out with @lincsfolk.bsky.social, and disturbing a monster in the woods that lives beside a half-forgotten well... 🖤 #folklore #podcast #folktales #folkcustoms #lincolnshire #ghosts #werewolf #witchsky

I... kind of love this.

Another informative post from The Godyssey Podcast. Brought to mind the Melissae, Bee Priestesses of ancient Greece. Taking me down another rabbit hole now.

the first conspiracy.

Artemisia Gentileschi's "Hercules and Omphale," badly damaged in the Beirut explosion of 2020, goes on display next month at the Getty after an intensive restoration campaign

The Three Fates are an ancient triad in many cultures and worth researching further. In ancient Greece they are Clotho (the spinner), Lachesis (the allotter), and Atropos (who cuts the thread of life). In older myths they're the daughter of Nyx, who is the Primordial Goddess of Night.

I kinda wanna do research on this and interview a bunch of people if they actually went on to be what they chose as babies lol

Zhuazhou (抓週) is an ancient Chinese ritual, where parents place their 1-year old on their birthday before objects: objects that symbolize the future like job choices. Essentially the infant is picking their future, in theory. #LegendaryWednesday

Japanese raccoon dogs are called Tanuki (狸). In Japanese mythology these adorable animals are tricksters who love sake more than trouble, and will go to great lengths to gain it. Many pose as priests to get it, and can be quite friendly. #WyrdWednesday 🖼: Yoshitoshi

Eight days after birth, the Fates come to a newborn and it is then and there the child's life path is determined. Their profession, their love life, their death: the Fates determine it all in this ancient Greek superstition. #LegendaryWednesday

Ravens are key to the Pacific Northwest, representing the trickster deity who brought the sun for the world and also the tricksters always getting into trouble. Both creator and mischief-maker, the ravens of the region are much beloved, at arm's length. #WyrdWednesday

Today is #WorldBeeDay which is a great day to grab a copy of my book 'Telling the Bees and other Customs' which examines folklore and rural crafts. There's a whole chapter on bees and beekeeping. You can grab a copy here www.thefolklorepodcast.com/store/p71/Te...

The Starling - In Welsh folklore the Drudwen (Starling) carried a message from Branwen across the Irish Sea to her brother Bendigeidfran, the king of Britain, to inform him of her mistreatment, launching a war. It's one of my favourite stories!

The first bees were born of Ra's tears, and their honey a sacred, sweet treat. Honey was used commonly in Egyptian baking and medicine, with bees and honey appearing in hieroglyphics and jars of honey found in tombs across Egypt's history. #FairytaleTuesday

Bees are sacred to Apollo, and honey has been offered to the gods for three thousand years, since the days of Mycenae. The Oracle at Delphi was offered honey and said to be a Bee, bringing prophecy down from Apollo; apiaries were connected to the god as well. #FairyTaleTuesday

Four tornados in the area around me. Haven't been out to see how bad it is, but we only lost power for two hours.

New head canon: Since the Souledge series Siegfried is supposed to be the same guy from mythology, Souledge is the ring of Nebelung. 🤔 💭

The Two-Mouthed Woman, the Futakuchi Onna, is a seemingly normal-looking woman who comes as a guest to a home in Japanese folklore, only for food to mysteriously disappear: hidden deep in her hair is a cursed second mouth, which must eat! #MythologyMonday 🖼️: M. Meyer

In Wagner's Ring Cycle, the Ring of the Nebelung is Albrecht's Ring, a cursed ring from a hoard of gold who curses all who hold it, including the hero Siegfreid and the warrior-queen Brunhilde: its destruction destroys the gods of Asgard. #MythologyMonday

It was the wedding of the epoch: Zeus and Hera, how could anyone refuse? Well, Turtle did: it wanted to stay home. Thus angered, Zeus cursed the turtle to forever carry its home on its back, giving it no excuse next time ("Next time!?" said Hera). #MythologyMonday

The new Neil Halloran documentary on Smallpox has completely changed how I see the RFK Jr. version of the world. Neil (softly) argues that realizing that disease isn't the fault of the sick /or/ the fault of the Gods ushered in a new future where we felt the authority to care for each other.
