I wonder how much of this difference is because California has more immigrants and more undocumented immigrants. Statistically, those groups are much less likely to commit crimes.

Weirdly, the thing from the EU might be real. The story goes that Bibi started bombing Iran because he was afraid the US and Iran were close to a deal. Dunno if that's true, but it might be.

You say a lot of things I disagree with (really, a lot), but blocking should be reserved for evil people like Vance, Trump, Musk, etc.

You should add that Biden did not federalize the National Guard. The "threat" Noem was talking about was just more MAGA make believe.

A lot of Russians (and Ukrainians) died at the hands of Nazis in WWII, but not 51 million. Here's an informed estimate that puts the number at half that. www.statista.com/statistics/1...

What specific acts do they allege? Maybe Garcia just helped another undocumented migrant find work? The phrase "human trafficking" might make one think of kidnapping or abduction, but maybe that's not what it means. Maybe Harriet Tubman was a human trafficker?

This leaves Facebook (Meta) and Apple as the only truly American red, white, and blue companies in Big Tech. That must by why Trump attacks them and not the others.

Ha! You should let a kid redo this. Modern AI can make fakes that are deeper than this.

The stooge is right -- information has value and uncertainty has a cost. Trump creates information for himself and uncertainty for America. That makes Trump richer while America pays. Brilliant!

The university president salary is set by the trustees. Most of them are business execs who believe the CEO of a company (of college) should get big bucks. It's just their culture.

To be fair (which may be unfair), the Federal government has used federal funds to "influence" states and colleges before. President Carter used highway funding to pressure states to adopt a 55 MPH speed limit. Under Obama, states were pressured to adopt Common Core education standards.

Rather than just saying people "here" are bad, give some examples. There's more to being "fact based" than playing the role of the centerist "very serious person".

Slander laws are different for accusations made in Congress. That might by why Mace made these accusations in Congress instead of a news conference.

It's good to have machines do menial jobs so people don't have to. We have mechanical diggers to replace men with shovels. Computers and printers cut checks rather than menial office workers. It's progress.

We should also not forget the monsters in the Israeli government and military who caused so much death and destruction in Gaza. Hamas are not the only bad guys, and certainly not the most powerful.

The suspension may have been illegal, but the program was a fiasco. Few charging stations were created. Here's a charitable report: apnews.com/article/fact...

To be fair, VP has been a no-show position since John Adams was VP for George Washington. Vance has to find something to do or Trump will appoint him border czar.

Are you saying there isn't photographic evidence of civilians being killed in Gaza? Here are some photos. I'm done playing this game. Bye. www.gettyimages.com/photos/child...
comment in response to post
As a first approximation, let's supposed damaged buildings were targeted and undamaged buildings were not targeted. Let's accept accounts of NGO workers in Gaza (not from Gaza, not Hamas) as reasonably accurate. Photographic evidence and reports say the IDF targeted civilians -- a lot.
comment in response to post
Weirdly, I did answer one of your questions. Try again. Also, try posting content of your own -- evidence.
comment in response to post
No matter how many answers I give, and I've given many, you never ever present evidence. That's because there isn't any. All photographic and eyewitness evidence is that the IDF unleashed wanton violence against the civilian population of Gaza.
comment in response to post
I was waiting for evidence, which you seem reluctant to give. Nevertheless, here's evidence relating to one of your claims. Israel has imposed a blockade on Gaza for decades to varying degrees. That's the main reason Gazan's lack medicine. www.nrc.no/news/2024/se...
comment in response to post
The photographic evidence is systematic flattening of all buildings regardless of their role. There were people in those buildings, most of whom hate Hamas as much as anyone. There are also eye witness reports of IDF soldiers targeting civilians. The links I posted have that.
comment in response to post
So far you haven't posted a single link. The photographic evidence is that the IDF is flattening whole villages, schools, hospitals, etc. The excuse that there may have been a terrorist inside doesn't cut it.
comment in response to post
You keep saying this, never post any evidence for it, and I keep posting evidence that it isn't true. Post a link to some evidence rather than just denying things for which there is clear photographic evidence.
comment in response to post
It's literally true, today, right now, that the facts in the MSF article are undisputed. You have not disputed any of them. Maybe one day you will. But, as of now, they're undisputed.

A pardon won't protect them from harassment, but it will protect them from jail. It also sends a message about Trump that Biden is forced to "pardon" (protect) clearly innocent people from politically motivated prosecution.
comment in response to post
I hate to be a nudge, but it's been a few days now.

Please be more specific, give an example, and post a link to support a claim you make. Here's a link showing US feminists supporting women in Saudi Arabia -- to show US feminists have long been concerned about how women are treated there. now.org/blog/in-hono...
comment in response to post
Try to dispute (from the report): .. repeated Israeli military attacks on civilians in Gaza, and the systematic denial of humanitarian assistance are destroying the conditions of life. ... ethnic cleansing as Palestinians are forcibly displaced, trapped, and bombed.
comment in response to post
You disagree with their proposal but you don't seem to take issue with any of the facts that lead to this conclusion. Maybe the conclusion is right if all the facts are right.
comment in response to post
OK, can you document -- with specifics and a link -- something in this report that isn't true? www.msf.org/msf-report-e...
comment in response to post
OK. I showed you mine, now you show me yours. What sources do you think are reliable? I believe Amnesty International. Post a link with evidence they're wrong. freedomhouse.org/article/isra...

Don't assume Trump nominating RFK means he wants RFK. It could be a diversion. Trump's book "The Art of the Deal" explains this tactic: be unpredictable, make wild demands, keep changing your position.
comment in response to post
"Educate yourself" does not mean accepting IDF news releases as true when they contradict every independent source.

Typical lazy reporting. Anyone who knows anything about LA real estate knows that most of the value is the land, not the structure. That's why you need $1M insurance on a $5M home.
comment in response to post
1. Feminists (transphobic or not?) have worked on this issue (orthodox Muslim abhorrent treatment of women) forever. 2. This does not excuse IDF behavior in Gaza or ongoing harassment and land theft in the occupied territories.
comment in response to post
Not all differences of opinion are because of corruption. Emptywheel's incorrect conclusions are honest and wrong.
comment in response to post
To be clear, I've never openly stood with anyone calling for genocide. On the other hand, many credible NGOs have documented IDF atrocities in Gaza. I want what's best for Israel in the long run. Becoming a pariah state run by criminals (Bibi and his friends) is not that.
comment in response to post
Progressive institutions (ACLU, SPLC, etc.) can be wrong, but unlike conservative opposites (Heritage, Cato, etc.), they're not corrupt. Progressives may be wrong about what's right (anti vax hippies :-( ), but they're not on the take.
comment in response to post
I think you misunderstand the term "due process". For Trump, this refers to his right to clog the wheels of justice. The fact that the trial reached a verdict in less than a decade, this itself proves there was no "due process".
comment in response to post
Amnesty International is just one of the many NGOs that have documented IDF actions in Gaza. But clearly there's no point in continuing. You're gonna believe what you're gonna believe, evidence or not. Bye.
comment in response to post
1. You excused Israeli behavior by saying Hamas does it. That's not an excuse. 2. Read the link I posted, which is independent evidence.
comment in response to post
1. The IDF may have lawyers, but there is plenty of independent evidence that it disregarded the safety of civilians. www.amnesty.org/en/latest/ne... 2. "Israel good/Hamas bad" doesn't work if Israel imitates Hamas.
comment in response to post
If Trump would highlight the one or two minority members in his cabinet, that would draw attention to the fact that most of them are old white guys who hope to benefit themselves.
comment in response to post
Wanton disregard for the safety of civilians is a war crime.

Roberts writes in the style of George Will: try to set a detached contemplative mood with some obscure historical vignettes, then proceed to calm dissembling and distortion. Of course, get the history wrong. The Warren court got as much flack as this one, also the court obstructing the New Deal.

My favorite scene: the dinner party for the English Department at Berkeley (Utopia?) in "Trading Places". The young hot-shot is goaded (not exactly, read it) into proclaiming that he hasn't read Hamlet. His career is over.

I have more than six brain cells too, twisted and misconnected maybe, but they're there. I wish you would call out Israel for it's overly violent and deadly actions in Gaza. Lots of Israeli Zionists also feel that way.
