Just re-watched Topsy Turvy. Still a such a great film about creativity and the lives of theater folks. The song at the end is so moving, the vulnerability of the actors, the difficulty of relationships, and the cost of art. All there.

My wife was trying to help a grandchild deal with the fact that some of her favorite authors and public personalities have turned out to be unkind and damaging people. How does one teach the reality of peoples dark sides without destroying hope? "Be wise as serpents and gentle as doves".

Considering the times, a tariff on zip ties would be a mistake.

We know what speech means because of grammar. It is the meta data that allows us to decode the content. Of course the expression with which something is said is meta data as well.

I just realized that Pope Leo IV can run for President.

The complaint about un-elected judges controlling government misses the point. They are not elected because the framers of the constitution wanted an emergency stop gap in case the voters went insane. That's what the court is supposed to be.

I simply note that having a TACO president who makes wild insane threats may be better than having one who doesn't chicken out.

🧡The world's foremost #Tolkien scholar and beloved icon of the Tolkien community, Professor Tom Shippey, speaks here about the tradition of Tolkien-inspired artwork, including my new book. I am grateful to the core of my hobbit heart! www.youtube.com/watch?v=Goda...

Cicero the Roman Orator despised Carthage.. Every time he gave a speech he said Carthage Delenda Est. (Carthage must be destroyed) Eventually it was. Dems should start every speech with Trump will pardon anyone for a million dollars. Then maybe it will sink in.

It is possible that the universe evolved us so that we would create AI and then it would have someone to talk to.

Can I re-post this 1000 times?

A lot of our young soldiers died fighting for democratic ideals which are exemplified by our Constitution. They thought freedom was worth the sacrifice. How shall we honor those who "gave the last full measure of their devotion."? How shall we insure that "these dead shall not have died in vain".?

The most dangerous societal trend is the denial of truth. The facts one ignores or the lies one accepts are deadly. When countries ignore reality, disaster is inevitable.

Jane Austin continues to amaze. Just noticing how similar the relationship of Rev. Collins to Lady Catherine Debourgh is to the Republican Congress and Donald Trump.

The Constitution is a contract between the people and their government. The people rely on it to protect their rights and the government relies on it to exercise power. When either side deliberately ignores its provision, the contract becomes void.

Good reporters focus on the present while there is still time to do something about it.

The new spending bill, among other things, has language in it forbidding the court from hold federal officers in contempt for defying court orders. What would prevent the Court from declaring that part of the bill an unconstitutional interference in their independent functions?

As our government becomes less and less functional, I wonder if that is the real agenda. Weaken countries so the international forces of the wealthy can do whatever they want without restriction. Also bankrupt them to get rid of social services while destroying that pesky middle class.

The homeless, the poor, the handicapped, and the elderly are often victims of crimes that go unnoticed because many have no voice. That's why the Republicans are doing this to them The effects will be devastating, but mostly invisible to those not directly involved. The perfect crime!
