The thing to understand about education is that it isn't about knowledge but knowing how to apply yourself effectively towards the expectations of your instructors and the assignments they give you which a lot of intelligible people aren't actually good at doing.

I miss when people just thought goofy filters were fun and didn’t think every use of it was some sort of immoral bastardization.

Justifying ai art as “democratization” is so weird to me because who even thought art beforehand wasn’t free?

I think people who are so narrowly focus on plotting when it comes to narrative critique to be eyerollingly insufferable but I don't think this should lead to dismissing plotting outright. I think bad plotting can definitely make stories worse if it's justified properly.

You know it's a common talking point to say that characters and franchises sell film more than actors these days but it's interesting that you never see an actor replace another actor in any role. It would make perfect sense to replace Chadwick Boseman, but the MCU didn't!

One thing I’ve noticed a lot of right wingers do is just make up a bunch of shit that’s illegal when it actually isn’t. That or claiming that something that’s been an established legal precedent for half a century is somehow some new leftist rights abuse.

I've come to the conclusion that people don't hate the institution of secondary education enough. I think there's a lot of value and importance in the academics they provide but the way they nickle and dime you then leave you on your own with no guarantee of work is pure cancer.

The easiest way to discuss things with people is to try and avoid loaded terms but also try to understand why such terms would be used. I'm not above expressing things hyperbolically myself but I'm not going to try and justify hyperbole and be aware that it is an hyperbole.

People are way too easily impressed by class metaphors as simple as "Rich people are BAD and exploit poor people" and how often this framing is used for storytelling is generally super reductive and superficial in a way I typically groan if it's ever played into.

I dunno why I decided to watch all of the Purge movies recently. I guess it was to simply remind myself that; yes, film can truly be this fucking awful.

ngl, it's pretty enjoyable to read conversations you've had with people on a server you've been in for years.

I feel people when they talk about bugs and technical issues of modern games as if that's some modern sin are pretty ignorant about how common it was in older gens. It's very easy to find PS2 games that had FPS issues or MANY glitches/bugs.

I feel like I just don't have the patience or interest to watch most Youtube video essays anymore. Good or bad. Always feels like many of them are going through the motions on a lot of things and that they're rarely bringing up anything that I find worthwhile to care about.

People who complain about America spending too much in foreign countries do so in the dumbest way possible. It wasn't done out of the altruism of the American state, it was done out of the real politik interests of the state. America would not spend that much on NATO otherwise.

I've been playing Marvel Rivals myself but it is really annoying how many people post about how the game is somehow salvaging Marvel or something. Bro, these are not the "comic accurate" characters you think they are nor was Marvel in need of this game to be valuable.

I have this weird state where I feel more capable of intellectually engaging with shit when my physical state is in a "very tired but can't sleep" type of state. Dunno why that is, but I could type essays a lot more effectively when in this state.

There's something funny to me about watching a lot of films and alternating between being the type who wants metaphorically rich storytelling and something that's a lot more blunt, and in some ways I tend to think communicating ideas tend to be more effective in the latter.

There's something funny to me how Arabic films play with feminist themes and plot beats far better than what western film tends to do. I chalk that up to a lot of feminist ideas being played into as a superficial marketing beat than a genuine expression as seen in Arabic nations.

I'm honestly not sure if the random likes I get from people on Bluesky are bots or not. At least on Twitter it's immediately obvious.

I'm starting to come to the conclusion that Frieren fans are some of the biggest idiots on Earth. Even more than other anime fans.

Really makes you think

It's always funny to me that hardcore Conservative types will point to Japan as the beacon "Conservative paradise" but not something like Saudi Arabia that could far more easily embody their ideal.

When criticizing someone academically I do think there is a pitfall a lot of people fall into in assuming themselves an expert on the topic when there's clear holes in that assumption. Not to say the typical Youtuber isn't worth criticizing but you should have self-awareness.

Gladiator is one of those movies I'm utterly baffled by the reception for and it makes me wonder how much of that is built on my perception of actual history and politics? It feels like I'm far less interested in it because it's such a shallow, inane view of what Rome was.

tfw want to workout at home but my cat keeps distracting me while I'm doing it 😑

There's something extremely funny to me about Conservatives looking down on immigrant groups as "traitors" to the nation for whatever dumb reason but then insisting on the 51st state rhetoric.

I've seen some animated pilots that baffle because there's so many of them that look like they'd be FANTASTIC if made into an actual series. Legitimately "why the fuck wasn't this picked up?" Comes up to me so many times when I watch them.
