also, as multiple people have pointed out, even if the majority of the funding went towards testing hormone replacement therapy or puberty blockers in mouse models (which is not the same thing as “making mice transgender”), that would also be a good use of funding!

I’m glad that more Tesla owners are disowning the brand, but I would also like to report that when, like 8 years ago, my mom was thinking about buying a Tesla, my brother and I told her, “don’t, Elon Musk is super anti-union.” and she said, “well he won’t get my business then” and that was that.

to be absolutely clear: this is not me arguing over hereditary citizenship. children should have the citizenship of their parents’ countries! the point is that basing citizenship on whether a child’s parents are “loyal” to a country ends up disqualifying a lot of US citizens born abroad.

this post by @notalawyer.bsky.social made me think of a guy I know. he’s a US citizen born abroad bc his dad is a US citizen. at the time he was born, his dad was living in a foreign country, married to a citizen of that country, intending to remain in the country. stringinamaze.net/p/it-s-your-...

also, many states contract with health insurance companies (managed care organizations) to run their Medicaid programs. so not only are most Medicaid programs not called “Medicaid,” they’re also called something different based on what your health insurance company is.

it will never not be outrageous to me that both the federal Dep. of Education & most state ed departments have SpEd classifications along the lines of “emotional and behavioral disorders” & yet by & large students who have actual mental health disabilities don’t get SpEd services, EBD or otherwise.

logging on

I am continually outraged and exhausted by the number of people who think that unvaccinated children getting sick, suffering, becoming permanently disabled, and/or dying is a good thing because it “teaches their parents a lesson.” Grow up and have some humanity.

powerbook g3 cat

this duck just tried to sell me a used banjo

Biiiiiiig stretch!

the thing about “health care is a human right” is that you either believe it or don’t. either health care is a human right (and everyone should be able to get care, regardless of who they are) or it isn’t. there’s not a middle ground here.

"anarcho-communist? oh, no, you misheard me. I'm an arachno-communist. I believe we shouldn't have private property, and also the only legitimate form of government is THE SPIDER"

i dropped a rather sizable glob of ice cream on the floor & the easiest course of action was to just let the dogs eat it. the floor is clean but unfortunately now the dogs are completely feral. they crave ice cream. they’ll do anything to get more.

Make no mistake. This is an all-out attack on health in America. Not only is the EIS vital to controlling infectious disease; it was where a remarkably high fraction of our public health leaders received formative training and experience. www.statnews.com/2025/02/14/t...

Soon …

yeah the issue isn't that salmonella never appears here in the US, it does; the issue is that when it does, teams of dedicated civil servants track the outbreak, find the source, spread the word, and recall the bad food. and will they keep doing that? will "they" still exist in any meaningful sense?

I’M SORRY – CUTTING THE *EPIDEMIC INTELLIGENCE SERVICE* IS *PHASE ONE*??? DO YOU (the general “you”) KNOW HOW MANY EPIDEMICS HAVE BEEN STOPPED OR SEVERELY LIMITED BECAUSE OF EIS WORK???

I saw the glass heart, said “mouth object!” to my boyfriend, went to the website to find it, and was greeted with a disclaimer all in bold of “Art glass is not mouth safe. Please do not lick it.” ☹️☹️☹️ anyway go buy Nora’s stuff it’s really cool.

ok but like, how are we getting any work done. i'm trying to tippy tap away at my silly little keyboard but every fifteen minutes or so the new stupidest thing anyone's ever done happens.

Pointing out that psych meds do, in fact, have side effects that can be, frankly, intolerable is not the same as saying those meds should be taken off the market or that nobody should have access to them. If your defense of psych meds involves treating Mad people as the same as RFK jr, fuck off.

anyway good morning I’m thinking about how when various parking structures in the Bay Area inevitably flood all the Teslas in them will explode in raging lithium fires that can’t be put out with water

Half-million metric tons of food spoiling on ships, rather than feeding people in need. Evil, evil decisions.
