Really excited about this collaborative work and a great experience with Review Commons

How did Coati get their stripes? Not yet known ... but we know how another Carnivore loses them! 3 mutations in gene TAQPEP changes a cat from tabby striped to blotchy #RIP #2025MMM www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Tomorrow I’m having a conversation with Senator Murray about NIH on my public Instagram - @sciencewhizliz. The timing could shift a bit due to the senate floor schedule. So if that happens we will adjust and share the recording!

Exactly. My R35 council meeting has been cancelled without clear rescheduling. No idea when I know if I can keep lab funded. MRAC study section I reviewed for cancelled at last minute. So much wasted effort and anxiety for folks.

Welp the NIGMS MIRA MRAC study section scheduled to be in person this Monday and Tuesday was just canceled.

Oh Canada! 🇨🇦 Really needed that right now. WOW was Binnington clutch!

This is in effect still freezing grant review and funding. Need to keep making noise to our representatives about it!

For decades, NIH funding has fueled breakthroughs in cancer, heart disease and more. But a new policy puts progress at risk. We need Congress to oppose this abrupt change. Join me in emailing lawmakers today! #SaveNIHresearch bit.ly/4hxmfsK

Petition to Reverse the NIH Indirect Cost Cap initiated by Tom Maniatis. Please amplify Sign the Petition: chng.it/kK2HMP5pGk "Share with Leadership & Faculty. Reach out to professional societies, biotech and pharma leaders, and philanthropic organizations to raise awareness and mobilize support."

Hi all, I am in contact with a reporter at Science magazine who would like to talk with a trainee or mentor who successfully applied for an equity/DEI-related NIH training grant or a training supplement but have not received the Notice of Award and probably won't get the grant.

Really important development. I’ve got my MIRA app that should be discussed on Feb 6. Need this to keep the lab going.

Several Graduate T32s (G-RISE, IMSD, Bridges to the Doctorate) and the MARC T34 (for undergraduates) training grants now have expiration dates of today, 1/30/2025.

If you are directly affected by a cancellation of a meeting you were scheduled to participate in or at which your grant may have been discussed, consider reaching out.

This is a lovely piece about the 2024 Nobel Prize to Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun, written by Bruce Wightman, the first author of one of the prize-winning papers. It emphasizes the importance of fundamental research and the beauty of heterochronic genes. #Celegans #devbio 🧪🧬 doi.org/10.1242/dmm....
