For some reason I'm reminded of a balloon you blow up and release without tying a knot. At first it flies around in circles making a great noise, causing fuss and excitement, but then it slows as it deflates and falls to the ground, to a neglected corner, in an anticlimactic flop.

#TrumpSlump in financial markets yesterday.

Trump doing what he promised to do for the US Economy: run it like he runs his business. Inherit a fortune and burn it.

My latest post is now out. I show how Trump's attacks on science and universities are neither random nor new - they fit very precisely into the authoritarian playbook. This means we can guess what might come next and prepare - and we must! christinapagel.substack.com/p/censor-pur...

Between 1927 & 1933 four nuns at Eibingen Abbey replicated by hand the renowned manuscript of Hildegard von Bingen’s magnum opus, Scivias. When the original 12C manuscript disappeared after WWII, the replica became a facsimile-original. I tell the story of that facsimile here tinyurl.com/3mcb6vt7

Starmer, in reply to Farage in the Commons: "Can I just remind him that Russia is the aggressor. Zelensky is a war leader whose country has been invaded. And we should all be supporting him and not fawning over Putin."

Indeed. How about European countries setting up a consortium of European mining companies to invest in Ukraine’s ‘earth minerals’ as part of a European deal with Ukraine?

Indeed.

As #Putin wants, so #Trump acts.

Has anyone commented yet about #Trump inviting #Zelenskyy to lunch and then sending him away without anything to eat at all? It may seem minor, in the circumstances, but the way hosts treat guests is indicative of much more than words.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... J Bowen. There are suspicions now that the public row was - in the words of one diplomatic observer - a planned political mugging: either to force Zelensky to do America's bidding, or to precipitate a crisis that would allow them to blame him for whatever happens next.

Zelenskyy speaking in an interview with Fox News issues his thanks to the American people. “You helped us to survive”. But he stands by his words with Trump/Vance. “We have to be honest. And nobody wants to finish this war more than us”.

This is thuggery from Trump and Vance, plain and simple. They are bullying the brave true patriot Zelensky into accepting a deal which effectively hands victory to Russia. Unless the UK and Europe step up, we are facing a betrayal of Ukraine.

All of the major U.K. party leaders have now issued statements about the Trump-Zelenskyy fallout except for Nigel Farage. He has been tweeting tonight but not about this.

Jeremy Bowen, BBC reporter, just said live on BBC News that he thinks it was a planned mugging by Trump and Vance.

Trump and Vance verbally assaulted Zelenskyy and, at one point, note that Trump pushed him physically. This ambush was planned by Trump for American TV.

Your dignity honors the bravery of the Ukrainian people. Be strong, be brave, be fearless. You are never alone, dear President Zelenskyy. We will continue working with you for a just and lasting peace.

This is big. Far-right troll site Guido Fawkes has always claimed it isn't subject to UK libel law as it's officially offshore. Today it conceded that it defamed Dale Vince, making clear it it's subject to UK law. No more dodging scrutiny. Staines will have to play by the rules like the rest of us.
