all this is both foolish and unnecessary

Thank you weather gods for a super rainy day as I head into end of semester grading.

Idk if Bluesky will make it or not, but imo one of the signs of the beginning of the end for Twitter was every single post by big accounts having spam responses. That's happening here now, making me not want to engage with big accounts, which is probably better for me and worse for the platform.

Academia in 2025: For weeks I’ve been working through botched copy-edits of my monograph, outsourced by the publisher to a company I’d never heard of, until it finally dawned on me the terrible job might be AI. A quick search confirmed the company recently launched new AI software, which now means..

yesterday my father called me to tell me a boy I babysat 20+ years ago was arrested for kidnapping.

Tandoori Noor, beside Taipower, is so good that I'm a little glad they're outside my usual geography because otherwise I'd eat way too much of it. Today I bought dinner, breakfast, and a snack's worth.

Shouldn't say anything and jinx it but There have been a lot fewer cockroaches in my corner of Taipei than previous years. Should I be relieved or concerned?

At some point this year my university has added a "Sponsored by" footer to our LMS, with the logos of two companies. I know it's not that much different from donors putting their names on stuff, but it feels so icky.

that "putting your hand in a bucket of rice" for grip strength thing that's popular now has to turn your skin into sandpaper, right?

my ideal coffee shop: opens before noon has non dairy milk options has no cats has decent coffee there are 10 cafes now in my neighborhood (an explosion) and only one qualifies, and it's just barely due to mediocre coffee.

Starting DEMON'S SOULS REMASTERED, the only From Souls game I haven't played yet. Excited for the frustrations and triumphs.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has absolutely terrible dialogue and story but the gameplay is top notch. Recommend for people who like Hollow Knight/Nine Sols type gameplay.

why didn't anyone tell me i can buy a feng shui-compliant tape measure

中文課本太喜歡討論風水、傳統、節日什麼的,沒有討論比較平日的主題,很麻煩

There's a million good vegetables for roasting but man the cheap and simple humble carrot is top tier. A little char, the natural sweetness with some added salt... Perfection. Cannot believe honey-glazed carrots were a normal everyday dish when I was a kid. They're sweet already!

Celebrating our anniversary in the traditional American way: excessive sugar consumption

It's a little weird to be 40 and still have life flow to the rhythm of a school year, but honestly I think it has more benefits than drawbacks. Each semester a chance to redo mistakes, each heavy grading period eased by knowing a break is just ahead.

I can't believe Bluesky tricked me into seeing another Marvel movie. Did not think Thunderbolts was as good as it sounded on the timeline.

I'm not sure if pumpkin in Taiwan is way better than in the US or if I just never gave it a fair chance, but wow it's good here and we eat so much of it lately. Today's meal: roasted with salt, pepper, and olive oil until semi-soft. Smash it on homemade naan. Top with green mango chutney. Heaven.
