when i do set that up, i use an old TV dinner table, which isnt the most stable; same when i write from the couch (to listen to records while I do). when using a split keyboard i put two tv tables side by side. i've long coveted one of those coffee tables that lifts up and comes toward you!

"Springsteen is alright, by the way, he gets my seal of approval, I think he's groovy" - lou reed, walk on the wild side, take no prisoners

in Deadwax we introduce the main character having oral sex performed on her, unable to finish unless the record, spinning in the lockgroove, is flipped. in 5 seconds tells you everything you need to know about this person. and it's, you know, funny. (and relatable. maybe.)

which in turn led me to this amazing looking experimental film called CORRIDOR, scored by Terry Riley (!) youtu.be/sN_OXAU7ayU?...

i just googled that to recall which image/album exactly, and it led me to this amazing site, which details all their covers and sources: godflesh.com/artwork/

that certainly explains why many new ones won't fit

you'd think obsessing over an analog format means wanting pure analog signal, but in my (limited) experience w collecting mass produced tapes some of the consistently best sounding ones are these 90s digalog type cassettes, especially well recorded live shows. sound uniquely good, diff than vinyl!

*these videos do not remotely do the music justice; including here for fun and just to show which parts I mean, though it should be pretty obvious when hearing the track!

there are very cool, driven people within the WGA still trying to make things happen along these lines but there are a lot of hurdles (game writing not being as silo'd as it is in film/tv, wider variety of types of interactive writing, tech company ennui or anti union sentiment, etc)

there was a caucus that allowed us to be sort of "peripheral" members, we were trying to find ways to organize the game industry, things were humming along, and then during the pandemic they unilaterally axed all the caucuses (not just games) for seemingly no reason.

same, this is great, and also makes me (having never clicked with Destroyer for whatever reason) want to dive back in as well!

i recently started getting (tiny) royalty checks from WGAW for a film i was a co-writer on. weird to be kicked out as a game writer, never allowed to join as a film and tv writer, and yet, they still collect royalties on my behalf and send me checks 🤷🏻‍♂️ (i'm not even sure why/how i'm owed that $$!)
