Go to church, they said, it’s good for you, they said… 🤣

Enjoying the weather here in Twente 😎

Let’s do this! 🤓

Amsterdam knows…

The National Academies have scrubbed their action plan for diversity equity and inclusion. For archival purposes, does anyone have a pdf?, nap.nationalacademies.org/catalog/2691...

As @jeremymberg.bsky.social correctly assessed at the time, the NIH memo that slashed overhead rates came from Trump/Musk, not anyone within the organization.

Next week, I will have the privilege of visiting the University of Twente to discuss equity in digital mental health treatments. The colloquium talk is an in-person event only, but the panel discussion will be streamed online and is open to the public: www.utwente.nl/en/bms/pht/d...

Again please share our study on the executive orders in academia iu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_...

NIH funding isn’t just for scientists. It’s for all of us. It supports research, labs, & jobs that save lives & improve our health & wellbeing. New cuts threaten critical infrastructure, slowing progress, eliminating jobs, & reducing economic output in every state www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Hahaha 🤷🏾‍♂️

Please take a few minutes to respond to a survey on how academic-related executive orders are affecting faculty, students, staff, admin, etc in academic spaces!

These are scary times, indeed...

Writing this paper was crucial in refining my thinking of strategies to advance equity in digital mental health treatments. It's nice to see that it has achieved a modest but encouraging milestone 🤓 scholar.google.com/citations?vi...

BREAKING: 22 states sue NIH over Trump administration's new 15% cap on overhead for federal research grants. Suit filed federal court in Boston contends lifesaving research 'will grind to a halt' under the policy. Doc: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

BREAKING: Judge McConnell in Rhode Island — who previously blocked the funding freeze in the states' challenge — issued a follow-up order at the states' request, including specifically restoring "appropriated funds" in the Inflation Reduction Act and infrastructure act and resuming NIH funding.

Feel invigorated after meeting with school personnel across California this morning in an effort to support each other and our youth in the wake of current ongoing tragedies; sharing one of the many resource gems brought by folks there! www.informedimmigrant.com/resources/me... #psychsky

These applications are so much work, this diversity mechanism is so brilliant scientists can develop their careers, stay in the field and advance science. To throw out these applications is simply unacceptable. Call your reps (we’re going to need to do that a lot): www.congress.gov/members/find...

NIH scraps program to diversify the biomedical workforce, a longtime goal of science Grant reviewers told to set aside applications from marginalized Ph.D. students 🧪 www.statnews.com/2025/02/07/t... via @statnews.com

15% indirect across the board - can your university survive? grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

Applications for an NIH "grant program that supports Ph.D. students from marginalized backgrounds are abruptly being pulled from consideration during grant review sessions, according to scientists in those discussions, imperiling the journey into scientific careers for many young researchers."

OMFG. NIH dropped indirect rate to 15%. Tell me I’m reading this wrong so I can delete this. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

When Scientific American endorsed Harris, many scientists and science-friendly people were supportive and grateful, but some said: stick to science, science isn’t political, etc. But reality-denying right-wing fanatics will absolutely come for the scientists www.washingtonpost.com/science/2025...

This is the end of science as we know it if it stands—15% IDCs for all NIH Grants. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

Interpretation for the non-scientists: When faculty get NIH grants, the University gets some extra cash to make sure the research is supported. NIH just cut that $$ by a LOT. That means Unis are less likely to support research. Most research in the US is done at Unis, so... it's bad 🧪

This would gut biomedical training and more broadly. Fewer researchers, stalled progress on preventable diseases, just brutal. Call your reps:

The new NIH policy for indirect costs going forward is capped at 15%. This is forever going to alter the science ecosystem, upending and destroying a number of programs at universities across the country. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

I will be teaching undergraduate + PhD level courses on empirically supported treatments for psychopathology. Want this to be a healthy dose of both what works, while also arming them on how to evaluate intervention science. Any suggestions for my reading list? Self-nominations welcome!

Likewise, pull out of submitting. I recognize the massive effort that goes into writing NIH applications, many of which were underway prior to the EOs, but I can’t see submitting for or accepting funding in good conscious right now

I removed the ID of the posters but at what point do we have a moral imperative here? I would not want to participate in a process that explicitly discriminated against minorities. If the applications aren’t reviewed they are basically rejected no? Pull out of the reviews.

Next week, I'm so excited to be spending Valentine's Day with Ruben Martinez (@rubenmartinez.bsky.social) and Susan Douglas talking about our shared love of measurement-based care. Thanks to sponsorship from the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science, the panel is free.

My current NSF grant under review has 36 keywords match (and isn't about DEI). A previous grant that was funded (and didn't focus on DEI) had 85 keywords match. These keywords will sweep in most work. h/t to @calvinlai.bsky.social for writing this script.

President Trump put an end to a policy that restricted federal agents from making immigration arrests at certain locations, including schools. It's already affecting school staff, kids and parents.

I’m an NSF panel reviewer that was scheduled to meet today. Just got notice that all NSF panels were canceled today. I reviewed some innovative proposals in support of students. Devastating if these scholars don’t get to do this work. For the love of science & students I hope this is just a delay.💔

This 💯 The NIH is a government. When we pay taxes it’s with the understanding that this is an institute we have a right to
