Missing “to” between “able” & “use” - missed the first few times I read it as well

That’s quite likely, you know how Silksong fans are - love their downward spirals.
comment in response to post
I can’t find a source for that beyond speculation from the 2022 Xbox showcase, do you know where you heard that? I’d love to know so I don’t expect anything at the next Nintendo direct 😅
comment in response to post
Silksong doesn’t have exclusive marketing rights with Xbox. Unless I’ve missed a statement from Team Cherry or Microsoft, it’s merely a day one gamepass game and a game that can show up at Xbox showcases. It’s not restricted or else it wouldn’t show up at Nintendo directs.

At £35 bundled-in I don’t have to think about it that hard personally, but Nintendo are being really greedy with the £75 asking price. If free roam was more fleshed out, there were 32 unique tracks, all the battle modes from 8 deluxe returned and all characters had costumes I’d say £60.
comment in response to post
… I don’t think so. Where does the extra cost come in? Cause free roam is a weird side mode gimmick the game doesn’t care about much, the game has 30 proper tracks (which is less than average), only 2 battle modes, no 200cc, 50 characters but only some get costumes. It’s bizarre.

Agreed - I think the game is really fun and exactly what I’d want from a new Mario kart after 8 deluxe (the perfect traditional Mario kart), but it’s fun for its new tracks, characters & main modes rather than free roam or the open world concept. If it was just £50 I’d love it, but at £75…
comment in response to post
You can really tell that it wasn’t made as “open world Mario kart” but rather “Mario kart where you drive between tracks” - the open world feels rather superfluous

These probably aren’t the free updates advertised for games like Mario odyssey or scarlet violet - those may come later, but don’t get your hopes up that this will make Mario wonder run at 120fps or with hdr. This is likely just to fix compatibility issues found when running these games on switch 2.
comment in response to post
I’d like to hope so - there was an update that made Mario 64 compatible with the N64 NSO controller and sunshine is already adapter GameCube controller compatible. It’s possible it could be later down the line though, as this update likely only exists to fix compatibility issues.

Agreed - structural issues & some missed Arceus features aside, SV are nearly perfect encapsulations of what I’ve always wanted from Pokemon. The switch 2 improvements will likely make them easily my favourites. With more dev time & the switch 2 hardware power, gen 10 could be really special.
comment in response to post
Pokemon has pushed the graphics boundaries of its systems, before the switch. Gens 5/7 are some of the best looking games on the DS/3DS respectively. SwSh & Arceus have great aesthetics but I think the problem is lack of dev time. I do agree on SV though, it’s fun with lots of content.

Bede from sword/shield felt pretty close to that, but only in the personality - his teams were always normally pushovers. I’d love a real piece of piss rival you want to kick in the teeth
comment in response to post
Nope, this is a free update - just gotta own the game and download it on switch 2. Unless you mean that these being locked behind the switch 2 update means it costs money then yeah - some of these probably should’ve been done to the switch 1 version.
comment in response to post
I reckon the cancellation is probably due to either a potential change in price (might’ve gone from a regular release price to a premium price like BotW & smash) or due to the existence of 2 versions now. It’s annoying but those seem more likely to me.
comment in response to post
I imagine this only applies to launch switch 2s. Not to excuse it if the patch is ever unavailable but it’ll probably be baked in once the first batch produced pre-launch is sold.
comment in response to post
I’d be surprised if they did cancel the switch 1 version - the lack of pre-orders probably suggests a plan to delay to next year more than the cancellation of a version they’ve advertised & shown off. Especially as the switch 2 version is still titled “switch 2 edition” on marketing material & box.
comment in response to post
It likely won’t be a competition between the ps2 and switch 2 anyway, but the switch 1 and the switch 2. Nintendo are projecting to sell 4-5 million more switches this year, meaning the switch will likely reach 160 million units sold before the end of its production (assuming that’s not next year).
comment in response to post
I’d argue the console game space isn’t magnitudes bigger now than then, as 100+ million sales were possible before & shortly after (ps1 & gameboy before, DS & Wii shortly after). Players also have far more real options of hardware than back then. I think this balances the playing field out.
comment in response to post
It arguably could be as impressive because the switch 2 is just for gaming - a large amount of the sales of the ps2 came from it being a relatively cheap dvd player. Not the majority of sales, the ps2 had a great library and was the sequel to the hit ps1 after all, but it’s worth keeping in mind.

I think nintendo games do this because it’s a very “Nintendo” way to do an open world - it’s very unconventional, as most modern games try to do a realistic blending of biomes. I think it’s to make for drastically different gameplay settings for variety. I don’t know if it’s better or worse.

Then you’re a smarter man than (I assume) the MCU is.
comment in response to post
I reckon CG - the mask will probably be some kind of easily retractable nanotech like other MCU helmets. I know Doom never removes his mask but as they’ve spent so much money getting RDJ for this they’re definitely not going to follow that rule.
comment in response to post
This might be a funky opinion but I could only imagine playing games like Wild World & 64 DS on the OG DS - feels wrong on anything after despite it being the same console. Rough 3D games feel at home on a rough 3D console I guess.
comment in response to post
The original DS has a design that works so well for that very specific early-mid 3D era of Nintendo games, and I think this special edition captures that wonderfully. I wish it was more widely available, I’d be tempted to pick one up.

Nintendo Switch is truly the dark souls of handled consoles
comment in response to post
Exactly! This is why Nintendo gave the GameCube a handle
comment in response to post
Why would you need games when the ps5 box has a handle? Hours of fun right there. Who needs an Xbox
comment in response to post
I’d love to meet someone who believes both things you’ve stated here.

Definitely not - do you know how many people 100 is? It’s absurdly in favour of the people, even barehanded.
comment in response to post
Either way the gorilla loses. 100 people is too many people for 1 gorilla.

Ah, apologies - I should’ve read it before I commented. That is quite worrying. There must be a root cause.

Interesting, thanks for linking this.

I think its too easy to blame the parents in this, but if this is happening on a systemic level that suggests something far more sinister - parents don’t have the time they used to to raise their kids properly. I’d be interested to see if this correlates to hours worked/number of jobs per parent.

This might be funnier than the hdmi cable

Unfortunately that’s not Bloodborne, that’s Leonhard’s armour set from DS3.
comment in response to post
I’m not sure - the pro controller has similar haptics to the dualsense (I think they’re made by the same company) & LEDs are pretty energy efficient. Maybe it’s the trackpad, as the DS4 also had bad battery life. I’ve always half-believed the battery is bad on purpose to sell more controllers.

They look too consistent to be AI fortunately, I imagine they’re just lower standard due to being background billboards the player is never meant to see.

Looking at inflation, the same pattern emerges as with the UK console prices. As I said with the UK prices, inflation doesn’t give a great understanding of the relation between price & consumer purchasing power. For that we should look at minimum & median wages.

I think it’s mainly because it’s purposeful. I can’t remember where I read about it, might’ve been the developer interview, but it’s a deliberate cap on the footage I assume to save internet bandwidth.

It may have been a stupid & pointless little loop but it was our stupid & pointless little loop goddamnit

It’d be almost admirable that Tarantino would willingly write himself as such an awful character, but bro doesn’t get excused over how much foot stuff there is

It’s such a good film - very entertaining, especially if you don’t know it’s a vampire film going in and go the first half believing it’s a crime thriller.
comment in response to post
Apologies I mean better than it sounds
comment in response to post
I think fortunately it’s worse than it sounds - I believe this is the same technique the ps5/xbox series use for their backwards compatibility. It means we have a long list of compatibility issues rn which is annoying but in the future they should all be ironed out.
comment in response to post
From what the developer interview says it sounds like they prioritised the power of the hardware first in the design, which made compatibility harder to pull off as the hardware is quite different. It also seems like this rendered previous methods of compatibility the Wii U/3DS used impossible.
comment in response to post
Scratch this, reread the developer interview and it’s half half compatibility layer & emulation.
comment in response to post
I agree, I’m kinda hoping it does fail even though I’m buying it. Something Nintendo learnt during the Wii U era was humility, which they’ve forgotten over the course of the switch’s life and especially with the switch 2. They need reminding that customer loyalty is a privilege, not guaranteed.
comment in response to post
It’s not emulation, it’s a compatibility layer. Not as good as the old way Nintendo used to do it but I imagine more cost effective & resource efficient, albeit worse while these compatibility issues are ironed out.
