15 years ago, @handiworkgames.bsky.social & I were walking along the Union Canal between Polmont & Linlithgow, discussing our liking for shipwreck stories. Out of that came a lightweight game called (imaginatively) Shipwreck. It never saw the light of day and has lain untouched. Until now.

And now, the UK cover to The Shattering Peace, which is pretty darn cool.

Can't wait for April 5th!! 😃💃 If you fancy coming along, you can get tickets here: scottishrefugeecouncil.beaconforms.com/form/90129d36

Check this out! I did the layout for it and absolutely vibe with the Arcane aesthetic!

Need to build a city for the next part of a story. So I started by drawing the river delta that it's located on. Here's the Wackle Mouth.

We're still working on Issue 3 of Peasant Magazine. Unfortunately due to life getting in the way (5 trips to the hospital in the past week) the release has been moved back to March 1st. In the meantime if you enjoy historical fiction and fantasy short stories please check out Issues 1 and 2.

Extremely brave, to jump into enemy territory. R.I.P. (#OTD in 1945, SOE agents Violette Szabó, Cecily Lefort, Denise Bloch were killed by firing squad in concentration camp Ravensbrück. SOE agent Lilian Rolfe was gassed. #WW2 #HISTORY)

Look, I quote posted this earlier, and I am not dragging OP, but it’s really important, if anyone is going to survive the deepening of the onslaught, to understand the US is an explicitly eugenicist country. I have seen a staggering naïveté about this, and a complicity. Short 🧵

Rapid fire, arm-waving chitchat. Including mention of playtesting #coldcity 2nd edition with some of my @ljmuhistory.bsky.social 1st year students!

I may have written the intro scene for a sequel to Fierce on the train to Glasgow this morning. 363 words down, about 99,637 to go (plus or minus a few thousand).

Alexander Grant of McVitie's donated £100,000 (c. £5M in 2023) towards establishing the NLS by handing over a blank cheque to the committee to be filled in as it saw fit. He told his banker it was to be paid without question. A further £100,000 followed to fund construction of the building 🍪🏗️📚

OpenAI says it has proof that Deepseek used its work without permission to create something meant to undermine and destroy its product. On behalf of all the authors whose novels and stories were taken as training data, oh no that must be so hard for you.

Writing advice that should be more popular than it is: - Take workshops taught by writers in your community - Go to book launches and readings in your community - Proactively practice craft by reading about it, applying what you read, and discussing it in your community

Just saw “dire” glossed as “very serious” and now I’m just imagining my DnD party encountering a bunch of wolves drinking coffee and talking about systemic failures in post-Bhaalian socioeconomics.

Linked up with a bunch of new folks on here so allow me a moment to spam. I'm currently working on Decree, a science fantasy RPG inspired by Traveller, Basic D&D, Destiny (1), BLAME!, Dead Astronauts and a bunch of other disparate influences. If that sounds like a good time, it's currently PWYW!

I think I have notes for both of these. In fact I ran a committee game in the late 90s at #CLWG about the settlement in Kenya (although I chickened out and disguised it as a generic African colony on the verge of independence).

Home after a day in Dundee playing "Tales from the Territories" by True North Megagames. Part political larp, part deckbuilder, part freeform rpg. Players were wrestlers, bookers and promoters of the territories-era of US pro wrestling in not-the-NWA trying to deal with the rise of the not-WWF.

Realise I ought to have a pinned post with a link to my newest book. There are three currently in print, one non-fiction, one #Sci-Fi novella and a standalone #Fantasy novel. mybook.to/Fierce

In an effort to inject a little positivity, can I help any of you aspiring writers with answers to questions you may have about writing and publishing? I’ve written 20+ trad published books, so ask away…

Unsolicited writing advice, no. #766: Writing is a community. Participate in it if you can. Engage with other writers. Lift them up, and they’ll do the same. Try to go it alone, or treat other writers as rivals, and you’re more likely to sink than swim.

So, to recap: the suggestion is: the UK creative industries grant open access to all their historic and future work and IP, without payment, to the brains behind a nascent industry that just tanked $1tn in a couple of hours. Sure. Seems great.

When Mother Nature shows off. The Aurora Borealis and the Milky Way. This was taken half way up Cairngorm mountain in the Scottish Highlands. Such a wonderful thing to see. There were people in camper vans who slept through it all 😮 Hope you’re all having a great day, stay safe.

Is it a murder mystery, is it a ghost story, or is it something altogether stranger? The clues are there for you to decide.
