My personal opinion? Not much better when it comes to the quality of the data. Is it easier to download? Maybe? osm2pgsql is a dope tool too. #gischat #geosky

I know Ibis integrates well with BigQuery as far as python packages go. I’m a little vendor lock-in averse. #gischat #geosky

I’m at a Azure/Microsoft shop for the time being. I’ll be sure to keep the GCP solution in my noggin though. #gischat #geosky

This is so cute I absolutely love it! #rstats

I’m tempted to go down the rabbit hole of either GRASS functions or setting up safeguards in PostGIS to solve this problem.

I’ve found pixi to be pretty darn helpful for geospatial, uv is solid if you need only Python stuff. #gischat

Are you looking for courses? I’ve got a course on geospatial modeling that has been helpful: ncsu-geoforall-lab.github.io/geospatial-m...

Nah, you’re good.

I was referring to the xkcd comic strip. 🤷🏼 in this case, it is what it is.

Instead of saving a csv, why not give Arrow a try?

I remember seeing 18F at Pycon a few years back. Godspeed.

You may enjoy ruff as a replacement for your Python linting—it’s wicked fast.

I vouched for the “incorrect_name” to be used. #gischat

I know that’s what some folks in the OpenStreetMap community were waiting to see if the GNIS record to change since folks were committing vandalism.
comment in response to post
Unfortunately, it’s what the GNIS says. 🤦

ISO-8601 saves time, money, and is the nirvana of date formats. Next best thing is the meter.

Glad to see you on BlueSky! Your presentation was awesome!

@justjami.bsky.social Here’s the link for GeoNode which includes a link to the demo site: github.com/GeoNode/geon... Link to OSGeoLive: live.osgeo.org

Stonewall article is alive from what I can see at this time.

You can spin up a GeoNode instance. If you don’t want to muck around with installing software there’s the OSGeoLive project that includes GeoServer.

Yeah, they recorded presentations—they may be able to edit in your slides if you send them their way.
comment in response to post
Dang, I was hoping to catch it. Maybe they can workshop your presentation in post?

Ooo, what softwares do you cover?

Then there are folks like me who end up copying/recreating that data with a mix of QGIS and OpenStreetMaps. 🤷🏼

I gotchu:

Well dang, sounds like I’d have an easier time with QGIS. But I’d like to meet my org for where it’s at.

I’ve heard it’s a bit of a pain to manage PostGIS with ESRI software. But it seems like ESRI with MSSQL Server is an odd bird too. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5x5c...

I’m curious, what’s some of that functionality that you’re referring to that’s missing or cost-prohibitive?
comment in response to post
That’s pretty wild. I’ve had little problem getting folks off of ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro—it’s the ESRI Enterprise that’s the tough part. I’mma have to try spinning up a GeoServer instance.

One thing I struggle with is finding a path for folks to sharing their map with folks who are non-technical other than a print map. I know there’s some plugins, Felt, OpenLayers, and GeoNode. But it can be a bit overwhelming. Got any recommendations?
